The scary thing about marrying is that either one of you die or end the marriage abruptly through divorce.

It isn't about where it ends, it's the journey in between.

I read something that said around 70% of people have already met the person they will marry by the time they turn 16.
User avatar #19 to #17 - thedarkestrogue (11/02/2013) [-]
yes and that thing you read was false.
User avatar #21 to #19 - xdeathspawnx (11/02/2013) [-]
It seems likely enough to me for me to believe it. This is the whole world, not just the areas that most of us (on fj) live in. In places like Africa, India, or eve small rural towns in America people spend most of their lives in one town, and usually get married much earlier.
User avatar #22 to #21 - thedarkestrogue (11/02/2013) [-]
I'm aware. it was proven false by multiple different people I've seen posting on multiple different websites.
User avatar #13 - swimmingprodigy (11/02/2013) [-]
From about ages 16-18 this is how I viewed relationships, so I none of mine lasted longer than a month because in that time I was able to determine how much I liked the girl. Because of this reason I've gotten to 3rd base plenty but I'm still a virgin.

Later I realized that when you're young, the main point of relationships is to have fun and hang out with someone you have sex with.
#14 to #13 - classygentleman (11/02/2013) [-]
I thought the idea was just to sort of have some experience dating, so that when you ARE old enough to potentially marry a girl, you have half a clue how to have dates and live with people...
Maybe thats just me .-.
User avatar #15 to #14 - swimmingprodigy (11/02/2013) [-]
I dont think so because you don't really need experience with dating. What for? To know how to act? You should know that just from basically living, how to handle yourself in social situations. As for how to act around them; the point is to find someone you can be yourself with all the time, so you dont even have to worry about that. I dont even need the experience you speak of because my best friend is a girl (I'm a guy) so all the time I've spent with her is pretty equivalent to a relationship.

Having a long term gf/bf really is no different than having a a best friend of the opposite sex. Well for the first few weeks/months (depending how comfortable you are with one another) you won't be that close, but with time of course you will get that close.

You can also enjoy the time you have together.. Be a little optimistic, buddy.

or just live together without ever getting married?

lots of people don't bother nowadays.
#58 to #1 - captainp (11/02/2013) [-]
Depends where you live. In Austria law sees couples that been togheter for a long time(1+ year I think) the same as being married.
User avatar #56 to #1 - europe (11/02/2013) [-]
Partially because men don't want to be screwed over
Which is wise

I have an uncle and an aunt who lived together for at least 20 years, and have kids that are in college. They got married last month.

Seven years living together and you're legally married, and you're probably gonna want those tax benefits even if it means getting a drive through marriage in Reno and telling no one.
#11 to #1 - batwill **User deleted account** (11/02/2013) [-]
At the very least, I would say that fills the same role as marriage. You're living together full-time as a romantic couple. The only difference is that you didn't have a ceremony and might call it by a different name.
User avatar #26 to #11 - jasonmaki (11/02/2013) [-]
there are other reasons too, hospitals wont be allowed to let them into your room in case of some emergency to see you. so its not just a ceremony and a name change you get
User avatar #60 to #26 - doctorhue (11/02/2013) [-]
I think you can get all the benefits of marriage even if you not marry. At least in my country. Marriage got A LOT of disadvantages, tho.
#31 to #26 - batwill **User deleted account** (11/02/2013) [-]
True, but if you live together for so long you're considered married under the law anyway, depending on where you live.
