As an aspiring psychiatrist, things like this unnerve me. Who, in the end, either authorizes or governs how "beautiful" a person is? Certainly anyone who has grown up with an ill self-esteem would know that it is not us as individuals, but society, that decides what we think is "beautiful." Sure, a person may look unique, but that is entirely incidental. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there is truly no hope only if we don't realize that we should not neglect who we are as people, focusing on how "appealing" we look, just to appease society.

I honestly don't think that I would be considered attractive by popular consensus. Do I think that I should? No, because I don't give a damn what other people think about me. People might say you're unattractive, and it might discourage you, but only if you allow it Keep strong, buddies. Play life with the cards you're dealt. Life hits us with tons of challenges, but in the end, you yourself decide whether you overcome them or not.

As a guy, I dont think I am anything special to look at and sometimes I wish I looked better but I am who I am and nothing will ever change that so I accept what I have.

The thing is though that girls are much more forgiving when it comes to looks. I know some girls are super shallow, but the average girl is willing to date a guy that isn't necessarily good looking as long as he maintains his hygiene and has a good personality. The standards for guys when judging a girl are much, much higher. I myself am not necessarily ugly, I'm just nothing special to look at. The epitome of plain. Like when you see a girl and have almost no opinion on how she looks, not ugly, not pretty, just there. I consider myself to have slightly above average attributes in kindness and intelligence and humor, but I'm 20 and I've yet to have a boyfriend.

I used to feel this way too, even after I got my girlfriend, I asked her one day what she found attractive about me and she replied "well honestly, there's nothing I really find very attractive except for you as a whole, you don't look unattractive but you aren't like Channing Tatum or something. It's just your whole appearance that I find really attractive."

So remember guys, your insecurities might be overlooked by some of your best qualities in other people. I didn't even think about that at all until my girlfriend told me.

MFW I look back on all that insecurity that made me socially awkward for some time.

Hey, this is coming from a girl. What do guys look for in girls? You always seem to talk about big boobs and a good complexion...

Well recently I've become much more fit and I find myself spending like 2-5 minutes every night after brushing teeth and whatnot admiring my sexy self. Feels good.

To be honest. I don't like the way I look. I'm 6'2, somewhat muscular, but with large bags, a huge ass, etc.

I always wake up knowing that hey, I may not be the best, for I'm pretty sure I'm better than that dude with no arms or etc, guys that are overly shy and self-critical don't get no where not because of friendzoning or stupid **** like that, it's because of confidence. This sounds cheesy but all of you should not dislike the way you look, because I know you are all fine the way you are.

I used to have horrible self esteem until one day I was just sick of it. I looked at myself and said that I am attractive, and now I feel so much better. Just focus on the positives and you'll feel better about yourself every day.
