I guess. Its kind of iffy to me though. Their plight is kind of negated by what the Nazi's were all about to me. American soldiers aren't fighting for hate, and it just seems odd to put Nazi's next to them just because all soldiers share tragedy in war. I understand that a lot of them were forced into it, but that makes me more inclined to pity them than to revere their sacrifices.

Whatever the cause may be, they fought for what they believed in and that takes courage. So hate the commanders who gave the orders, not the soldiers that executed them because if they refused their families and themselves would pay the price.

Respect to all the soldiers fighting for a cause.

I don't agree with that at all. They tried using that excuse at Nuremberg and they were executed. But it was that culture of intimidation that kept people from sabotage and speaking out that allowed all those people to be murdered, I don't think that those who succumbed to it are blameless. The Nazi's were motivated by hate, and the germans who followed them were motivated by fear. If John Boehner put himself up as the fuhrer of the United States with absolute power, he would have been murdered immediately. I have a great grandfather who was conscripted into the SS, and his mother helped shelter a jewish family temporarily. The only one out of those two who deserves any respect for their trouble was his mother. I pity my grandfather, it can't have been easy being a part of something like that. But if I knew that America did half of what the Nazi's were doing to people I would be captured and defect as soon as conceivably possible. I don't hate the people who were involuntarily conscripted into the SS, but it was wrong to put them up on the same level as soldiers in the United States military then and now.

yes, yes we get it only soldiers can have problems and if you're not a soldier you're less than them and have no right to feel sad,
don't get me wrong, i have respect for soldiers and yes i understand that some people might think that there problems are bigger than anyone elses but this is getting a little old, just because someone isn't starving in africa, homeless, or fighting in a war does not mean they can't feel sad
User avatar #40 to #27 - rocketpropelled (08/23/2013) [-]
For me the reason why these get to me is the fact I'm going into the military and the challenges we will have to face and I'm not trying to say you're wrong but I think it just is the fact they give alot I guess it just relates to different people
User avatar #61 to #27 - xdeathspawnx (08/23/2013) [-]
sometimes putting your problems in perspective makes you feel better. When I'm upset about something I sometimes think that there are other people who have it much worse. It makes my problems feel insignificant and helps me forget about them.

I just picture him and his buddy going through boot camp together, hitting the clubs together, being shipped out to the front lines together, being on patrol together, consoling each other as they see the atrocities of war together. And then, one day, a IED takes one of them out.
Oh god! The feels!

The one with the soldier with his hand on the memorial with all the soldiers names also made me feel.

There there. Don't be sad. We all feel the feels.
