How the **** is life a lie?

Feels like people are just thumbing this up because it sounds edgy.
#295 to #185 - sergalord (08/25/2013) [-]
It is a lie.
Or at least for all we know it is.

Why do people live? There is no answer. There is no reason we live, but because we continue to live, we are living a lie, telling our selves that there is reason to live.

Or at least that's my interpretation of this.
#245 to #185 - manwithanopinion (08/23/2013) [-]
Shut your mouth and open your eyes: Are you Alive? Sadly yes. Will you die? Yes, thank god. Do you spend every single second of your life thinking about your impending doom? No. You don't. There for life is a beautiful lie because it allows you to lie to yourself and the world and pretend that your death isn't getting closer and closer every single second.
User avatar #250 to #245 - screamingdemon ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
Except I don't think that you little ****** . I know very well that I'm going to die and I don't lie to myself about being invincible, but there's no ******* point in thinking about death, because I cant do anything about it. I ******* already covered this with the other guy.
#239 to #185 - niggletjones (08/23/2013) [-]
Exactly ******* this.^
User avatar #206 to #185 - aquaekk (08/23/2013) [-]
We all know death is there, and waiting - but we choose to ignore it until it happens (with exceptions). We (with exceptions) try to live life to our own ''fullest'', whether this is getting your dream job or going to your dream location. However, what is the point when the end result is always death?

Ignoring it is like calling it a lie, when it is indeed, the end truth to everyone.

As it happens, we could see this like this. If someone is living and someone dear to them lies - they may be in denial. However, the truth is that the person is dead, but it is too painful to bear it.

Just my opinion, anyways.
User avatar #224 to #206 - screamingdemon ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
But that doesn't explain why life would be a lie. We don't choose to ignore it, because you know what's pointless? Thinking about death all the time. The point in living biologically is to reproduce. That's why we don't just kill ourselves when we get bored.
User avatar #225 to #224 - aquaekk (08/23/2013) [-]
(with exceptions)

If the point is to reproduce, then why do some humans not have children?

I was referring to within one human's self, anyways.

This comic isn't talking about biological means, it's talking about the emotional factor that death is looming and life is stalling.
User avatar #230 to #225 - screamingdemon ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
Some humans don't have children because we are can think more than just basic needs. A ******* dog doesn't think "you know what? having kids would just stop me from following my dreams" most animals just follow their instincts and **** and eat. But we don't we can think abstractly and self consciously. That's why we're called Homo Sapiens Sapiens.

The comic is trying to be deep and failing at it. It's probably made by some 15-year old who could paint well and wanted to do something meaningful.

Life isn't a lie
Death isn't a lie
There is not philosophical meaning to life, we are just as meaningless to the universe as bacteria or dirt.

Well Jesus ******* Christ, calm down, Buzzkillington.

I was going to argue again, but it seems like you won't change your mind because you know you're right

so yeah, great chat and all that.
User avatar #238 to #235 - screamingdemon ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
Why are you still commenting if you said that you wouldn't argue?

I love life, I'm hyped as ****** about it. and I also really like philosophy, but it's very easy to find texts/posts like these that are trying to sound meaningful without having any real meaning. It's just like when swagfags say something like "ill luv 4 ever gurl, it's you nd me vs the wooorld" It's just made to sound nice without making sense.

You know I've often thought about this, life, death, and mortality.

We live, we die. For what purpose? To reproduce? To what end?

In the end, everything happened by accident right? Everything is just a byproduct, a natural occurrence, a generation of something.

We exist... probably for no reason. We will live... evolve... but in the end, our species is likely to die out... one way or another... will everything come to an end?

Will this universe collapse on itself only to explode into a new universe one day?

And maybe life will begin again.

How many cycles has it been? ... in a world that might not ever end.

tl;dr It often seems that upon the most deliberate and careful of deliberate thought that exist itself is both futile, and without meaning, in short; the most logical conclusion is either that existence is illogical or pointless. Maybe it's both.

User avatar #194 to #181 - UberAndrew (08/23/2013) [-]
I constantly think about this kind of thing as well.
If nothing matters, if we all die in the end then why do we try? Why do we worry about tomorrow when tomorrow just end?
Why do we strive to make life better for the next generation when they will all die anyways?

It's also upsetting knowing that all human thought is is electrical impulses and chemical reactions. Emotions aren't part of some spiritual soul, it's just science. I'm just a part of the universe collected into a small mass that only lasts for an insignificant amount of time, do I, or anyone have any actual worth?
User avatar #196 to #194 - infinitereaper (08/23/2013) [-]
And there are so many us ready to fill in the gap... frankly, I'm not ready to throw in the towel... I've always liked to believe... well... maybe we are truly foolish, and barely see the surface... maybe not even the surface... perhaps our eyes are still closed. The soul. Maybe there is such a thing as the afterlife. Maybe consciousness lives on... it's almost ironic... but without something more... without immortality, in whatever form... it just feels... pointless. But you know. Even our eyes barely see a fraction of what can be seen. We're outclassed by many creatures here on Earth even. Maybe reality has more secrets and complexity than we could have ever imagine. Maybe the true nature of this universe is more intricate and the rabbit hole deeper than we could have ever imagined.

Maybe... just maybe....
#186 to #181 - ruderoody ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
I've had the same thoughts as you and what I've come to conclude is even if there isn't any reason why we are here and even if we are doomed we are still here and the most we can do is find our own reasons to live and that's good enough.
User avatar #187 to #186 - infinitereaper (08/23/2013) [-]
Reason to lived doesn't always mean much when life often finds itself without reason. We live, we die. Most of us are just forgotten. And if the universe itself proves to be limited in it's lifespan, that means everything will come to an end one day no matter what we do. It may be impossible to escape that. When I think of it that way... I really wonder what the point is.

Mortality is a curse, and life is not a blessing. Especially when you're left to ponder with such a limited mind.
#191 to #187 - ruderoody ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
We don't live for others we live for ourselves whether we're forgotten or not as long as we give our life it's own meaning that's what matters and I'd like to believe how long the universe exists isn't a factor in the value of life because it will still be here for trillions of years after the last stars have died out and that in itself is trillions of years from now if not more, and I'd like to think that the mind of a person isn't as limited as you think the reason being that you can think you in a way are the universe itself pondering yourself and in a way that gives your life meaning
User avatar #193 to #191 - infinitereaper (08/23/2013) [-]
I've always felt my only purpose in life was to exist for others, but the irony is that I am not even able to live for myself. Don't you feel the weight of futility? Or perhaps you've never encountered it. Perhaps meaning doesn't lose it's value, but unrealized reality is inherently worthless isn't it? Isn't living the same way?

Trillions of years... I'm sure time is just an illusion. Really ponder. Really think. Abandon all ego and personal desire... think. I come to scary conclusions.\

Frankly I love life or rather I would love to be able to love life, but a powerless man... has little other than thoughts... seemingly worthless thoughts.
#197 to #193 - ruderoody ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
If you feel like you live for others that's fine but if that's what you think then you are still living for yourself through others they become your reason to live all the people who've you met won't all remember you that's impossible but you would have still played a part in their lives and them in yours and that gives your life meaning, and nope I don't feel any kind of "weight of futility" because for me life isn't some futile endeavor but a great experience the existence of life may have been an accident with no meaning behind it but I still choose to believe that we make our own reasons to be here and time isn't an illusion because it doesn't physically exist you can't touch it there isn't some magical time particle it's a measurement and a concept we use in our lives it's a human idea that can be applied to the physical world, another thing is what does ego have to do with this, and there isn't a person alive who has abandoned personal desire there isn't anything wrong with personal desire it's something that comes from being alive and personal desires are what eventually give anyone a reason to live. One more thing is that I don't agree with you that any man is powerless because the most important thing life gives is the ability to change and the ability to choose if you choose to you can gain power whether it be physically economically intellectually or socially no one is powerless as long as they can change.

We aren't all so lucky.
And sometimes our hunger for knowledge requires so much more.
#203 to #199 - ruderoody ONLINE (08/23/2013) [-]
No you're right not everyone is as lucky as me or you or a lot of other people but what I've seen is that a lot of the times the people with the worst luck are the ones who fight the hardest to live and the ones who laugh the loudest, and the only thing stopping anyone's hunger for knowledge is their determination to find that knowledge.

#177 to #168 - unheard (08/23/2013) [-]
It is saying a beautiful "lie" basically because many people go through life without finding the real meaning. I just think this so true because you dont know how long you'll live, but you know you will die. And also no one KNOWS exactly what happens after you die. It could be nothing, an eternal happiness, or even an other worldly experience. So just take that into mind. And remember to believe in what YOU want, have your OWN oponion, and do what makes YOU happy.

No, life is not a lie. Life isn't just beautiful, but to the individual it's fleeting and changing. We are scared to let go of life, because we are afraid of what death is like. Death is not just a painful truth. It's an absolute, it's not something we can avoid forever, I see no reason to hate death. I accept the truth, but if you asked me if I was ready to die, I'd say no, although I don't feel much of an attachment to this world, to these people. I still have my personal goals I wish to accomplish, my strong curiosity for my interests and hobbies are what keep me bound to this world, I'm moved too often to savor the company of good friends for too long. Family is just a fake bond, I've seen fathers break bonds because they couldn't handle the lonliness, I've had a brother who was abusive and controlling on a power trip about being the oldest. I've practically seen the last two remaining people of a family consisting of an uncle and a nephew tear at each others throats for their own greed. Family and Friends are not what keep me here, it's my selfish desires to learn what I want, to go where I want to go. I may not have much faith in the bonds of people, but I don't feel lonely, I don't see death as an escape, but from what I can understand, people only fear death because of regret, and they see it as a deadline, they didn't accomplish what they wanted, even if it's something like seeing your grandsons wedding, we don't fear death, we hate that because our time is so limited, we can only see so much, we can't do everything we want, and death is just the reminder. I want to live for my selfishness, but I don't want live heartlessly, I just don't want to die and not regret everything I have ever done, or regret not doing what I should've.
