I joined the Marines for the title, I ended up nearly paralyzing myself in a training accident and was discharged. I don't collect benefits for my injury because, having never deployed, I don't feel like I deserve it. The entire time I was in I was surrounded by pieces of **** that were only there for the money, and they're still in and not me. **** you OP, there are still those who actually give a **** about this country, and instead of sitting around bitching about how much it's ****** up actually stepped up to try to make a difference.

Becoming a politician would make a difference. Killing whatever brown people you're told to kill isn't making a difference.

Got me a $11k bonus for the the Navy, plus being paid to go to a school that qualifies me to run any job in the civilian world. I just wish I could grow my hair long again.

I'm glad there are cowards in the army, because I'd be very sad to see them giving their lives for a bitchy little anon like you- cursing strangers out and hiding without an account to take responsibility for your actions...

Well he did say Army, not military. Besides, I thought most people joined the Air Force because it was the least dangerous with most benefits.

wellwould you put your life on the line for a few thousand dolllars? the average soldier is E-4 and below which means their annual salary is between 18-22K you can make 24,000 at McDonalds. yes they get bonus' and yes free healthcare(there is a reason its free, ITS ******) and alot of other perks as well but none of it is worth a human life in my opinion. I have many friends that return from overseas with a fat wallet but the effects from being in those places far outweigh any money they received.

thinking about joining the army because sitting in a hole while sand people shoot at me is preferable compared to being a debt slave for the rest of my life

As a soldier i can confirm this. People join because they think its fun then realize its not so much fun so they either get out as soon as their contract is over OR stay in to keep a steady paycheck. There are very very few people who actually enjoy the military

I'm considering joining after High School. I come from an upper middle class family and could go to college which either way i plan on doing but nless i have some reason not to join, I probably will. I feel like being remembered for computer engineering isnt going to be very exciting...

I'll be joining the Army National Guard in November of next year, because it's my only way through college, and three of my best friends did it as well. Depending on circumstances, I may or may not go active duty. But, I'm doing it to help myself, and help others. I couldn't care either way about people thanking me for my service.

maybe it's their civil duty in the country they live in, and not everyone gets to choose to risk their lives in the armed forces like they do in countries like the U.S.A, or france, or any other nation that gives you that option.
the fact you can get out of highschool and not have to immediately go in to service is a blessing. count it as one, and have yourself the best god damn life you can.
