This is somewhat unfair if you think about it. If there wasn't any quality, computerised effects, then the actors/actresses wouldn't be covered in sensors and standing in front of green-screens and look stupid like that, they would have make up and costumes/outfits made by top professionals and would ultimately still look quite good, like they did in the past. So yeah, I'd probably still watch the movies without the 'top' effects.

Seeing pictures like this ruins the magic for me. For example, when I saw The Hobbit, I was totally immersed in the fantasy. Now that I see the picture, I remember it's all fake. I want to believe!

they should release effects-free workprints as a separate release
they'd make more money for less work and I'd enjoy that so much more

and yet people still bitch and complain when they have to pay a few extra dollars for a 3D movie.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news guys but the guys hired to do the special effects for life of pi went bankrupt because of the heavy stuff they had to do for that tiger and such. That ****** expensive.

Looks like Warner bros put Peter Jackson on a serious leash with the set building.

Except it wouldn't look like that.

If a movie isn't good without visual effects then it wasn't good to begin with. Watch Dogville and you'll understand.

respect to the visual artists!

but at the same time: shame on them!
even though the computers have so much more ressources than 10 years ago the animations have gotten worse.
just look at the t-rex from jurassic park. damn, it looked like it was there! and it still does! than look at the new animations and you just clearly see they are animations... why did they degrade the animations in the past few years? i just dont understand... back when i watched jp i thought "damn... soon all movies will look 100% realistic and have a lot of **** going on!" but instead all these animations are clearly animations... it's really a shame!

and then again, take aliens from ridley scott. it was great even without computer animations... so who says you need them?
nowadays they are mostly used to compensate the lack of originality and plot... and the bad actors. (just watch any movie on mute and in most cases you wont be able to tell what emotion the actor is playing. they have become that bad at mimic) i think it has taken a turn for the worst even though there's so much more potential nowadays...

Would watch 'Life of Pi' if there were no special effects and it was a real tiger.

respect old movies*** a lot of that stuff can be done but they use visual effect to cut costs. so go **** yourself when it comes to the opinion that these modern movies are better and watch bladerunner. everything is real. one of the best pieces of modern cinema there is. and its 100% real

I'd watch anything with Scarlett Johansson in it.

I didn't care for Avatar or Avengers, even with special effects.
User avatar #20 - infinitereaper (08/08/2013) [-]
Some people seem to hate special effects, well I say go back to watching plays, none of those cameras and other fancy stuff

Am I the only one who thinks it'd make for an awesome extra feature to have a version of the movie on Blu-Ray or whatever with all the special effects removed? Like just watch The Avengers, then right after watch Low-Budget Avengers with green screens and sound stages galore?
