it's simple, the hour handle controls one square and moves it according to hours and the minute handle controls the minute and also a seperate square... the background is a stationary square

On the clock, the clock has both hands the same length.
As for width unless you're talking about "depth thickness" they both perfectly align in the first picture so I can assume they're the same thickness too.

the wider pair of bars indicates the hour and the thinner pair indicates the minute.

of course you can't see the exact time but you'll get the approximation with it. ******* morons
