I once got a sliver in my lip from play ground wood chips. There was blood everywhere. Never knew a sliver could cause that much blood.

Same thing's happening with the park I used to go to as a kid (McKinley Park, if anyone on FJ lives in Sacramento). Some asshat burned down the wooden playground, and they decided that during the rebuilding process, they'd replace the sand that used to be there with wooden chips.

Seriously, how the **** is WOOD any safer than sand?

When I was in preschool a little asshole kid decided to push me off the slide when I was gonna do it myself, and instead of sliding down, I ******* defied all of my childhood expectations and somersaulted down the whole thing. When I hit the end, my knee was coming down and it landed on the single ******* straight-up woodchip in the playground. It freaking impaled my knee. That **** hurts.

It's harder to get woodchips in your eyes than sand. And kids would throw handfulls of sand at each other so they went to woodchips.

I miss the old wood playgrounds and tube slides and other cools stuff like that. Apparently my town thought that they weren't safe anymore so they got rid of them. They replaced every playground in my town with these stupid things. This was the only image of one I could find. They are so boring, there's no cool towers or anything. Just metal semicircles with ropes

That sucks, dude. In my home town we had a 6 meters tall slide, and there was sand in the bottom, so we used to grab a piece of box, throw sand through the slide and sit on the box. then we went all the way down, it was amazing. that was ten years ago. I moved out, and recently I visited a friend and went to think about the good times. They ******* removed it. I almost cried when I saw a stupid swing in its place.

those wooden things are awesome, did you play tag where only the person who is in can touch the ground?

We played where one person is it, but no one can touch the ground. Even the person who is it. If the person who is it touches the ground, they have to re-enter from where they fell. If someone who isn't it touches the ground, they are it. But because it was tag, you could tag someone to make them it

The park near me always had rocks in place of sand, alot of smooth rocks and it was fine...then they changed it to the rubber flooring that is somewhat harder than concrete. Why change something to make it worse.

Where I grew up, they had tiny pebbles instead of sand. Wasn't too painful and the best part is when winter came around, they froze into small hunks of pebbley goodness that exploded when you threw them at a wall.

I broke my ankle when I flew off the swings on sand and that ******* hurt

I slipped and fell onto wood chips at a park, got cut and bloody but didn't hurt as much as the sand.

Either way, you will get hurt at parks
