A decent portion of those vets are homeless because they blew all their money on booze and cars and strippers and **** because they have no serious expenses while in the service and don't think about the future. And/or they went in as infantry or something similar so they have no skills that translate to the civilian world and are thus unhireable for anything much above minimum wage.

It's a ****** cycle but it happens more often than you'd think. Of course a lot do just fall on bad luck like everyone can.

Go ahead, thumb me down. If you talk to most vets they'll tell you the same thing, there's one guy like that in every platoon.

Forgive me if I sound like a dick, but are graveyards in America really that... plain? Just a bunch of identical tombstones lined up in a perfect grid? That's how they show them in films...

I am joining the British Army as an officer, and it offends me deeply when ungrateful, ignorant cunts spew ******** about our soldiers being "murderers". WHERE IS YOUR ******* JUSTIFICATION?

I just wanna say that my friend joined the Marines, and he just got out of School of Infantry, so he's all done, and I can tell he's been brainwashed to **** . Not to an intense point, but they give you this false sense of purpose.
I know it might be an individual case, but there were a lot of stupid things that he said regarding what he considered "civi life" or whatever. They really make you think you're up above everyone else if you join the military, and it just draws people in like crazy.

that being said I understand it's a huge accomplishment to finish boot camp and SOI, and I'm proud of him or whatever, but still, it bugs the hell out of me to see what **** they put in your head.

I grew up on an Australian military base and a LOT of my friends are soldiers. And to my amazement not ONE of them had negative feelings about their time in the forces, and most said it was the best time of their life. although one dude who was English (para 2) did believe he was brain washed. dunno felt like sharing.

The reality is that combat isn't worth the pretty uniform or the cool gun.

Wait, OP, are you implying that *gasp* war may not be pleasant?! Oh no, who would have ever thought that war wouldn't be a picnic?

My time in war was bad but I won't get into the specifics, in short the saying is true. War is Hell. But sadly war is necessary for Humanity to one day evolve into a greater species. Most wars are started by the misguided and the ignorant, and once they are gone, true human progress can begin. I hate war and it is a terrible thing and very little good comes from bloodshed, but as long as we have emotions and opinions there will always be some level of conflict.

IDK war isn't all that bad. I got to go places I would have never gone, do things I would have never ever done. I saw the cradle of civilization, and I pissed on it. I drank carbonated whiskey out of a can, in record setting heat. I drove a tank (I wasn't a tanker). I did stuff some of you can only imagine. It's true that when things were bad they were really bad. The good times though, were off the ******* charts. Most of us who have served have more than our fair share of dead brothers, but we are better for knowing them. The only thing I would trade in my entire experience so far in this world is places with one of them.
