Riddick Dark Athena had a mode similar to this. The players had to kill whoever was Riddick while the player as Riddick had to kill all the other players. All while in a pitch black map.

This looked like a good idea the first time I saw it posted here, it still looks like an awesome idea multiple reposts later.

aight so ima say this idea is fantastic and i want to add something mostly because someone made a very good point about there not being a real reason to WANT to play as a human

a progression system for both sides, because games need progression to keep from being dull

and humans should have different classes like a gun priest (good at fighting/defending ghostly/otherworldly monsters but not so good a fighting physical monsters) a hunter ( very proficient at fighting monsters, has multiple techniques to fight against them) i brought op these two for balancing purposes so A. the monsters have to be more strategic and B. the humans are more alluring to play as

i thought about something while i was writing my article the specialist monsters/humans should "think" (the player hears them but no one else does) about their surroundings (like for a hunter he could have a chance to sense a monster and warn the player who could in turn warn his friends over chat) little things like this would make this game more incredible than before....plus im a little obsessed with the fact that a players experience could be GREATLY increased if his/her character would have a way of communicating through the fourth wall

The pulse reader would have to be on the joy pad itself, to stop people putting it on their dicks while playing.

Who would ever want to play the humans??

Nobody, but it'd be randomly matched, think how any infection game type would work, with one player being chosen as the first infected player, however, seeing how it's monsters and there's no infection, they'd obviously just die. They'd play the humans just to get a sense of true fear, hence why they're playing a horror game, and they'd get a rush out of being hunted and the satisfaction of killing the hunter with a group of your best friends would be excellent. It'd be interesting if some developer out there gave this a shot,

left for dead 2 had a multiplayer option where players played as infected and hunted human players.

the human players would often just commit suicide at the start so the round would end and they could play as monsters. it didnt work

It did work, though, I've played both Left 4 Dead games, and I've never had that experience.
