Get an annoying customer? Spit in their food...
I dislike this logic
User avatar #174 to #163 - yeezus (07/06/2013) [-]
But customers are the ones paying. They have more of a right to be annoying than a waiter who is at their job.
User avatar #175 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
You may or may not agree with this, which is fine, but here's how it goes (at least in the U.S., where I live and where I'm a waiter)

Standard tip is 15%, generous is 20% or higher, poor is around 5% or 10%.
You are supposed to tip no matter what---that's the part people don't agree with, but I'll tell you why
As a waiter, our salaries are heavily dependent on tips. Minimum wage is $7.35/hour but restaurants can get away with paying us $3.67/hour because we make tips.
So even if we're ****** , we still need to make something. Tip us 5%, that's fine, we'll get the picture we did a ****** job.
Just please for the love of god treat us like human beings. Smiles and compliments don't pay our bills either, for those of you who are super super nice but shoddy tippers
User avatar #180 to #175 - ilcecchino (07/06/2013) [-]
It's actually against the law for you to not make the minimum wage, IF by the end of the week, you did not make the amount of money you would have made working for minimum wage for teh week. they must reimburse you

lets say 10 hours a week at 7 bucks min wage, that's 70 bucks

If you work 10 hours at 4 bucks, and made nothing in tips, that's 40

40+30 = 70, The resturaunt owes you 30 bucks by law... now if this is a common occurance for one worker and not the others. obviously he is a bad waiter, and they can choose to fire him. but by law. they must make minimum wage by the end of the week
User avatar #181 to #180 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
Right, we have to claim tips when we leave the restaurant and that's how they keep track of that particular number. And my restaurant doesn't do the tip pooling thing, we all make our own individual tips.
But, our paychecks still say $3.67/hour because they assume we're making at least the other $3.68 in an hour to fill out that minimum wage.
And i've had that happen before only because it was a super slow day and it happened to all of us. It sucks.
User avatar #183 to #181 - ilcecchino (07/06/2013) [-]
Tip pooling? like when they take everyones tips and then split them evenly or something???
User avatar #184 to #183 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
Yeah some restaurants do that. If there's say 7 servers in a shift, every tip they get they put in a jar and at the end of the night they send everyone home with an equal amount of money.
Which is kind of like getting a trophy "just for playing" in my opinion...lol. Plus it's not fair if one server is busting their ass while another one is slacking off and they both leave with the same amount at the end of the night.
User avatar #188 to #184 - ilcecchino (07/06/2013) [-]
I agree, i'd hate that method!! but still. even if a day was slow. and other days weren't. it might suck i know, but if at the end of the week you made 60 dollars, the resturaunt would owe you 10, if you made 80, you walk away with an extra 10

Take the good with the bad i presume
#239 to #175 - cainto (07/06/2013) [-]
I completely agree I am a server also but where I work they get away with only paying us 2.95 an hour and we are expected to make up the difference in tips and when that doesn't happen it looks really bad and I can't afford to have a home with food for my family...TIPS ARE ESSENTIAL!
User avatar #211 to #175 - slugnugget (07/06/2013) [-]
I live in the UK where they make the owners pay your salary... not the customers.
User avatar #212 to #211 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
I think I'd like that a lot more
#201 to #175 - fukyu (07/06/2013) [-]
i tip based on service if you want tips then give better service **** your 15% ******** .
User avatar #203 to #201 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
Then **** you too. Stay at home and eat with your family if you're going to be an ass.
And I said 15% is standard or average.
#207 to #203 - fukyu (07/06/2013) [-]
or earn your keep, you want 15% then make sure my glass is never empty and that my food is done to my liking, if it is a place with complimentary rolls or bread sticks or something like that make sure i don't need any more. ask me if there is something else i would like.. i am there spending my money on your pay so if you want it earn it bitch.
User avatar #208 to #207 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
That's fine, but we still do that and people still tip like pricks.
We hold up our end of the job, lot's of customers don't hold up theirs.

But a word of advice, don't piss off the people that handle your food.
If you stiff a waiter and then go back to that restaurant and end up with that waiter again...good luck buddy
#213 to #208 - fukyu (07/06/2013) [-]
if thats fine why did you act like the bitch you are when i said i tip based on service, huh faggot why? and i know about pissing people off who handle your food i have done food service, i just leave if i get someone i know to be a ****** waiter.
User avatar #214 to #213 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
Lol because you're actually supposed to tip no matter what. Look it up if you don't believe me, there are tons of articles about being a good server and being a good customer.
Poor service=poor tip.
No service=no tip.
Make sense?
#215 to #214 - fukyu (07/06/2013) [-]
no, you aren't tipping is voluntary not mandatory. at least in america thats how it works..
User avatar #216 to #215 - ithyphallophobia **User deleted account** (07/06/2013) [-]
that's how you think it works. like I said, look it up.
#217 to #216 - fukyu (07/06/2013) [-]
no need there is no law mandating you to tip, is it customary yes but is it mandatory nope. this ain't communist russia pal.

I have a lot of waiter friend in a variety of companies both "high quality" and "miserable" ones. They all make **** ton of money. But those in crappy workplaces are forced to work at least 12 hours (maybe even 15).
#200 to #195 - fukyu (07/06/2013) [-]
the money they make is from tips, i have turned down a few jobs waiting tables because it was 4 bucks an hour plus tips. i don't wanna rely on other peoples generosity.
User avatar #114 - Bubmaster (07/05/2013) [-]
Is everyone stupid? All you have to do is slide something back under the cup and flip it back over, it's not rocket science.
User avatar #116 to #114 - noobletxii (07/05/2013) [-]
Which ever side you are not sliding something under it would pour out. Because in order to slide something under you would have to lift the cup.
User avatar #123 to #116 - Bubmaster (07/05/2013) [-]
Not if you are quick enough and the object is thin enough.I know this becasue I'm a waiter and my friends think it's funny to do this.
User avatar #241 to #123 - noobletxii (07/06/2013) [-]
What's that thin that you can use it to keep water from spilling?

I hate people who bitch about service which isn't bad to begin with because they feel entitled to perfect service...
I also hate people who do a mediocre job at doing what they do because they feel entitled to a better job.

I just hate people who feel entitled.
#155 to #147 - anonymous (07/06/2013) [-]
Shut up. You just hate people.
User avatar #158 to #155 - thepandaking (07/06/2013) [-]
I guess so. I didn't mean to sound like a bigoted hateful ass, I'm just saying people do often times act like they deserve more than they're owed.
#177 to #158 - pissyassthree (07/06/2013) [-]
couldn't agree more
User avatar #179 to #177 - thepandaking (07/06/2013) [-]
I'm glad you see my point. It sounds arrogant to say, but it really is true, and doing this to any waiter that works **** hours to pay bills is pretty immature to me, even though I get that it's humor.
#182 to #179 - pissyassthree (07/06/2013) [-]
yeah dude. all these **** sticks expect perfect customized service just for them. and if it doesn't go perfect they flip a tit. the world is filled with spoiled ***** now days
User avatar #186 to #182 - thepandaking (07/06/2013) [-]
it's very true.
I'll leave you alone now, but before I do I'd like to share a quote:

“It’s so arrogant the way we live our lives. We’re constantly right on the edge of existence and nothing and we live in total disrespect of that. There are people in other parts of the world, like Africa or Afghanistan, those people, they know, because they live on that edge and they lose people every day. They die in a war or from a disease.. and we think we’re the ones, that this is the important place, like we live in the center of the god damn universe. And it’s ******** . It’s meaningless.”

#32 - anonymous (07/05/2013) [-]
As a business traveller, I tip when someone performs an action which saves me time or enables me to do my job more effectively, not for something I was going to do anyway.

Lifting my bags out of a taxi isn't tip worthy when I've just carried 2 suitcases around the world.

Tipping is such a ******** culture, and people should stop doing it so people can get paid a proper wage.
User avatar #93 - heytheremister (07/05/2013) [-]

And we usually only do it to ******* .

I always tip outrageously no matter the service. I'll actually just pick out of my wallet, I usually tip twenty to thirty dollars. I just don't care about money that much sometimes.

**** all that. Hey, I'm very sorry that the government taxes their tips. That's ****** up. But that ain't my fault. it would appear that waitresses are just one of the many groups the government ***** in the ass on a regular basis. You show me a paper says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it. Put it to a vote, I'll vote for it. But what I won't do is play ball. And this non- college ******** you're telling me, I got two words for that: "Learn to ****** type." Cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent, you're in for a big ****** surprise.
