Heh, my work used to let us take home the "expired food" (we made the food fresh and it gets a 7 day sell by date and we pull it from the store after 4 days) but recently the owner of the place decided she wanted us (this is exactly what I was told) to feel bad about the food we have to throw away, because being excited about free food is wrong and we should be sad no one bought it, apparently. So now we have to throw away perfectly good food every morning because she's a dumb cunt.

I work at a grocery store, the amount of food we trow after closing is just insane!
lots of pounds of bread, warm chicken, lasagna, pork chops etc. etc.
For some legal reasons we are not allowed to give this away or what ever even thou we know it's fresh and more than eatable....

My brother had worked in the executive box in the Emirate's Stadium as a waiter where he served deliciously, posh nice food to the fat cats. By the end of the day, they had to throw away all the left over food and the workers weren't even allowed to eat or take any of it home for themselves. They threw a lot of it away as well. I often hate to play the "kids are staving in Africa" card but this is just ridiculous.

I work at Tim Hortons, and if I ever work at the one in the mall, we have to throw everything out when the mall closes for the night. So sad to see the bags full of delicious goodies.

i work at Randall's, ive brought this up to every single one of my managers and they all say that they don't donate the food cause if someone were to get sick then the company would be responsible regardless of it being a kind gesture to donate and help feed the less fortunate. always that one person ya know

Your average food place throws out more than enough good food per day to feed a large family, usually more. Companies that donate their food are in the minority. Out of sight out of mind amirite guys?

I work at Panera and our closer for the bakery and the closer for the line (where food is made) put any extra bread in giant bags and a charity comes and takes them. This applies to every Panera in the country. Also, any extra paninis are thrown away, so we can take them home. Any time food is made that is never actually given to a customer, it's offered to anyone. And, depending on your manager, most let you take home anything from the bakery before the charity comes.
