I remember this being posted again some other time and a guy dismissing it as fake in the comments.

Same. Thought I saved it but I can't find it.

It's about contradicting historical sources. It's very hard to find something that is reliable when it comes to things this ancient. It's just like the Thomas Edison vs Nikola Tesla debate; there's just as much evidence favouring each of them.

Like Napoleon (allegedly) said, history is but a fable agreed upon. It really could be either of them.

Napolean was 5'10"", which was actually considered very tall for his time.
User avatar #18 to #13 - mylazy (06/17/2013) [-]
I don't think it is so much that the sources contradict in this case, but rather this post is all true, but leaves out a lot of information that makes it a lot less glamorous.

That's a good point, yeah.

Now, I understand that tumblr posts (a majority of them) have a funny little sense of humor they use, with their facetious use of caps lock and hyperbole, and I think it's funny. However, when I see it so often, it really starts to bum me out. Does it bother anyone else? I'm not saying no one should enjoy the tumblr sense of humor, go ahead I have no problem with that, but I personally can't stand it anymore. It just gets so old to me and makes me hate seeing the tumblr posts.
Sorry for posting an unrelated comment, here's an unrelated gif (well it's kind of related in a way)

I've always hated Tumblr. FJ has made me hate it even more.
User avatar #243 to #240 - thepandaking (06/18/2013) [-]
I hated it at first, but then I saw some clever posts. I don't know I understand the humor of tumblr but it's just so bland and stupid after a while

kinda like Celtic women. Celtic women were terrifying. they didn't even NEED weapons. when the Roman Empire ATTEMPTED to invade Scotland, they're accounts of Roman Soldiers literally quaking in fear if a Celtic Warrior called upon his woman to fight. they would fight with punches, kicks, and their OWN. ******* . TEETH. Celtic women were bad ass.

#50 to #12 - John Cena (06/17/2013) [-]
They were also usually in charge with teaching combat.
Most likely because the Celtic men were out fighting Romans naked except for a gold band around their neck, war paint, and hair they spiked up and bleached with citrus.

My family moved from the mountains where sparta used to be right before my father was born. I just want to say that not only can spartan women fight like the devil, but they came cook one hell of a feast afterwords. God damn so much good food.

Spartans: by far my favorite group of people in history.
MFW I'm reading Gates of Fire, a novel about the battle of Thermopylae

I think; If this is true, then Sparta was quite dahm special, and i approve of the badassery of their culture. Any form of gender equality is quite rare in history
User avatar #19 to #15 - mylazy (06/17/2013) [-]
While most of it is true, it leaves out a lot of important information that would make it seem a lot less special to you.

I'm no expert on Sparta, so my current knowledge is quite limited. If you know of any such information, please fill me in
