Okay sure a lot of them are not reported but Add 100 to the number of reports. The 1 in 4 statistic is still bull **** .

It says 1/4 women will be raped by the time they finish college, not 1/4 women will be raped while in college. I'm not saying their study wasn't skewed, but taking that perspective and citing only 3 college is a little silly.
#372 to #367 - warofdawn (06/14/2013) [-]
yes but at a colledge with 4000 women that meens 1000 will be raped it is still a blown up number and i would rather see proof of the 1/4

Why is rape such a sensitive subject
Why do feminists think ALL men have raped or will rape a girl?
Rape is only such a big deal because feminists keep bringing it up with ******** claims and then accuse men for bringing it up.
For that matter most instances of rape are either women regretting what they had done, or women making some guy's life hell with untrue stories.

There's a bar in the city I live near that has nights where girls 19+ are allowed in and men must be 21+. The girls are allowed to dance on stage. The men are not. THAT is an example of rape culture.
User avatar #530 to #364 - blakekendrick (06/14/2013) [-]
I think there's a misunderstanding of what "rape culture" means. It's a framework of society where women are objectified and praised for being sexual objects. The fact that the women choose to get attention in that way or not isn't an aspect of it, but the fact that they are praised when they choose to do so is.

Just explaining... I didn't mean to rustle anyone's jimmies. I'm handing out green thumbs for you reply-ers for speaking your mind because this is an inclusive community and I like seeing real discussion.

Except from trolls. Go away.

how dare those men look at legal age girls that choose to come to a bar of their own free will and dance becuase all women crave attention and thats how they choose to get it? what a bunch of rapists!!!!
..wait, did anyone actually rape the girls? or force them to come there and dance? no? ..BUT STILL MY FEELINGS ARE HURT SO ITS RAAAAAPPPEEEEE!!!!!!!

...whats that? girls in third world countries actually are brought to places agaisnt their will and then made to dance and then raped repeatedly? who gives a **** about them? im talking about REAL RAPE CULTURE
#399 to #364 - teranin ONLINE (06/14/2013) [-]
So, these men are raping these women? Yes? Grabbing them and raping them in the secure nightclub with bouncers? And of course, these women are being forced to go by the male rapists, after all they can't be responsible for their own choices, they're women.
#419 to #399 - firereadyaim (06/14/2013) [-]
no its rape becuase the girls are choosing to go there and dance becuase they crave attention, but then when a fat or ugly girl goes she gets booed and that hurts their feeligns so then they must complain about this obvious rape culture and get it shut down with their very important blogs on tumblr

just some real stats from a credible source
An estimated 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience a sexual assault in their lifetime {National Crime Victimization Survey. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice, 2000.} (sexual assault not rape)
According to The National Women's Study, 683,000 forcible rapes occur every year; which equals 56,916 per month; 1,871 per day; 78 per hour; and 1.3 per minute {National Crime Victimization Survey. Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. Department of Justice, 2000.}

Not all rapes are reported, like top comment says, and attempted rape that gets interrupted is just as bad as rape.

My current girlfriend was roofied and if it wasn't for her friend she would have been raped. I want to kill guys when I hear about **** like that.

>Girlfriend has a friends that is very liberal, pro women, feminazi
>I have no problem with feminism but this bitch is the type of feminisim that you guys aways complain about
>"all men are pigs, but they should still treat me like a princess, equal rights but only for me"type ********
>even my GF gets sicks of hearing her ******** rants
>one day the subject of rape comes up
>oh boy hear we go
>talks aout all the rape culture and how life is so unfair to women
>"so, worst case scenario, what would you do if someone try to attack you?"
>"well, I would use my superior mental thinking to talk my way put of it"
>"....you do realise that we're taking about a sexualr PREDATOR, right? People who are known to kill to get what they want"
>"well if properly scared im sure I could fight them off. I HAVE taken womens self defence you know"
A few weeks later she was leaving a party after some prick was flirting with her. I guess her "supeior thinking" didnt pay off cause she ended up getting the **** kicked out of her. Bad. I went out and bought my GF pic related and she loves it

#366 to #358 - harryblazer (06/14/2013) [-]
thanks. but it was more just to keep her safe then anything else. I'd carry smith and wesson and always worried about her safety since we took classes on the other side of campus and security here sucked. I was just happy I didnt have to convicne her to carry

And it's people like you and I who know what the second amendment is for.
The constitution is there to keep us safe, and you took the opportunity to do that.
Random fact: Did you know the majority of suspects who have commited shootings were known Liberals?
#416 to #370 - harryblazer (06/14/2013) [-]
no I didnt, but Im taking criminology as one of my courses and if its taught me anything, its that there isnt a way to be 100 percent safe all the time. somtimes if you want protection you have to be willing to defend yourself. thats what I told my girlfriend before I gave her the gun and she agreed
User avatar #427 to #416 - navywannabe (06/14/2013) [-]
A gun is only to bring distance between you and attacker. You know that already. You're right about not always being safe though. Would you feel a little insecure in a situation, but you have a gun? Or feel hopeless without one? I would take her to the range and get her comfortable with the gun IMHO.

It says "by the time they finish college" not "raped while in college". The information does not support the conclusion. Sorry, better luck next time.

A lot of raped are not reported but a lot of reported ones are also a false accusation. Unreported ones are probably higher but the statistic is still probably not that far off

This reminds me of one time in my class. We were in debate and we were discussing rape cases. Our teacher got out sticky notes of different colors, and began passing one to every girl in the room. He had around 300 students for all his classes. Each period, he would pass the sticky note to the girls and told them to write inside it "Yes" if they were ever raped or "no" if they wernt.

Little did everyone know, he gave out yellow sticky notes to the ugly/fat girls and light blue sticky notes to the pretty ones.

When he got back the sticky notes (around 150), 16 of the yellow ones said "Yes" while only 2 of the blue ones said "yes". Also he gave out an equal amount of blue to yellow sticky notes to make it quanity fair.

This, he said, proves that most women who said theyve been raped are lying to make themselves feel good or find power. /end of story
User avatar #460 to #340 - candance (06/14/2013) [-]
Implying that rapists couldn't want to rape the ugly ones more? Or that looks matter at all when it comes to rape. Also, everyone defines beauty differently, so how do we know who he considers beautiful is what other people consider beautiful? I really don't think this is a solid enough experiment to support any kind of conclusion. But it's a neat idea I guess. Ps. Why not ask the boys? They can be raped too..

Ok, first of all a "Rape Culture" doesn't exactly mean that people are raping left and right. It means that there are too many people that are comfortable making jokes and don't see that rape is a big deal. Second of all, not that many women may get raped, but the point is that it's some what common for women on college campuses to get raped. Many rapes are not reported because women either know their perp, are embarrassed, want to forget, or try to justify their event so that they feel like they weren't raped.

If god put a woman on earth my dick was supposed to go in her. I call it manifest destiny. It worked for the Europeans taking land, maybe it will work with me having 200 children and taking over the moon.

Oh yup you're right, my bad

I dunno where this guy's getting his statistics from though
#323 - xxxsonic fanxxx (06/14/2013) [-]
This is a great example of people rewording things and horribly scewing them to support their own angles. 1 in 4 is the percentage of women sexually harassed in their lives, which includes things like being groped against your will or being hollored at by horny construction workers and **** . The overall percentage of women raped in America is estimated to be around 15% - 25%, and rape frequency varies on location, just like all crime.

But if you're going to say that 1 in 4 women raped is too high a percentage, I don't know about that, think about all the other countries where women are considered property, or are wed against their will, technically, sex with their husbands is rape if they don't want it, but they are forced to. If you take this into consideration, there are areas where almost 2/3 of the women have been raped. And consider Africa, where children rapes are so frequent that HIV in children is a major problem. It's scary, but prevalent.
