The Pope has now rephrased this proclamation in a Vatican-released "explanatory note on the meaning of 'salvation'".

It turns out that atheists can get into heaven... if they convert.

My bornagain christian friend dragged me to church one day and I learned his church preaches that you don't have to be a good person, you just have to believe in Jesus Christ as the son of the one and only true God and you will be absolved of all sins and go to heaven, while the greatest person in the world who spent their entire lives living perfectly and doing no bad will go to hell so long as they are not christian.

But let's still hate gay people who should burn in hell for being born like the abominations they are.

Actually Pope John Paul II said that being gay was natural and not something for Catholics to attack. But he said the Catholic church could never really support gay marriage

This is what the religion is meant to represent. I really like this man.

I'm Christian, not Catholic; but my father was raised by a catholic family, and from what I've ever been told, everyone should be accepted and treated equally.
In my opinion, my path is mine alone, just like everyone else's. I don't enjoy it when other people try to challenge me, and tell me why I'm going the wrong way, so I don't do the same to others. Just because you don't believe in something, doesn't mean you should insult and challenge those that do.
Just let people live their lives, and make their own mistakes.

(.gif kind of fits what I'm saying..?)

I am personally a Christian, but I really don't give a **** what you believe as long as you don't say anything about anyone else's beliefs and just sit there eating your god damn med-pudding.

This is why I, as a Catholic, believe that Atheists can go to heaven.

It may not be a common belief, but finding God hard to believe in and not wanting his forgiveness are two different things.

I bet if you asked an Atheist 'If you had diffinitive proof that God exists, would you want his love?' they'd say yes.

So basically, Atheists are good if they do good, but Catholics are just good?
User avatar #67 to #62 - bakonforall (05/24/2013) [-]
Catholics would have to follow their own rules.

Im not going to respect this guy just because he thinks atheists can be good people. EVERY religious person should have his views

The whole idea of religion is to be a good person and to accept.

>Implying, of course, we ever cared about whether the big, bad pope approved of us or not.
User avatar #58 to #25 - Mahazama (05/24/2013) [-]
We do care about what the Pope thinks about atheists. Because the Pope's opinion can translate to the opinion of many more catholics, who will in turn be more tolerant of us athiests.
