Why not buy a Alienware small tower, or another small powerful tower, they're not much bigger than the old xbox's, you can take them mates if you want, and game, mod, go on the internet and do much more cheaper. Sure it'll cost £1000 not £400, but what you'd spend on a laptop or computer anyway you don't need

>buying an alienware computer

I get your point of a walk in and buy product, but not only is it it cheaper, its fairly easy to build your own computer what with all the guides and youtube. Also its a useful skill.
User avatar #232 to #230 - ctenop (05/22/2013) [-]
Yeah, I'd much rather build my own. Tell my mother to build one, or go down to argos and pick up a decent one for more, she'd go argos. I'm talking about mass product, not everyone will want to build their own. Which is kinda dumb "You can either buy flat packed furniture, which is better for £300, or get the worse stuff arranged for £700"

I'm building my first in the summer, damn well looking forward to it. Just in time for Rome 2!

Nice, all my mates have spare tv's, my friend is getting a small alienware (because he doesn't have the time or patience to build one), and he'll bring it over. With the way pc's are now, they aren't all huge towers, you can pick it up, shove it in a packback and take it to a friends, most tv's are compatible with them too, I plug my laptop (poorfag, only cost me £130, bios, 2.4ghz and 2-8gb ram, nvidia graphics ) into my tv all the time, so much better than just a console.

Or build your own and have a better product
User avatar #197 to #181 - Battlekid (05/22/2013) [-]
still exactly people make it out to be sooooo complicated ive been building for years now, since i was 6 years old, its not that hard
User avatar #231 to #197 - ctenop (05/22/2013) [-]
It's not complicated, people are just lazy
User avatar #190 to #181 - ctenop (05/22/2013) [-]
Most people don't know how and don't wanna learn or do it. Was just thinking of a generic product you could walk in and buy, and be gaming the next day
#215 to #190 - morkotlap (05/22/2013) [-]
Most companies offer to build it for you for free as long as you buy their components.
User avatar #226 to #215 - ctenop (05/22/2013) [-]
Hmm, fair enough, I did say other powerful tower, the main point of saying alienware is although expensive, it's easier, and most people would just rather go down to argos where you can get one, then do stuff like that.
#236 to #226 - morkotlap (05/22/2013) [-]
Well if they make over 100$/hour, then it's sensible choice to not waste time. Otherwise, it's better to do some research and buy the same hardware for two thirds the price.
User avatar #238 to #236 - ctenop (05/22/2013) [-]
So my mother wants to buy a decent pc for my little sis, she won't build it, she'd buy it from argos. And geeze $100 an hour? They're only like £1000 in Britain, for a decent pc that's pretty ok
#243 to #238 - morkotlap (05/22/2013) [-]
I bought dell from britain for 500 pounds five years ago. Won't run the newest game in highest resolution now, but still, pretty decent compy. 600 pounds PC lil' sis bought few days ago runs Metro Last Light on the highest settings with 60 fps.

But I guess you are wealthy enough to afford not to shop around.
User avatar #245 to #243 - ctenop (05/22/2013) [-]
Not really, no need to be a cunt about it. Just saying, Small, cheap, powerful, in the argos catalog: Alienware. My mother won't buy stuff online, and doesn't know where to shop.
User avatar #180 to #173 - Battlekid (05/22/2013) [-]
or spend half that and just build a pc, just sayin alienware is like apple lets overcharge for some simple ****
User avatar #187 to #180 - ctenop (05/22/2013) [-]
Most people don't want to build one, I was just thinking of a generic produced thing that you could sell the the masses. With sense and some research you could build a really good small tower, for rather cheap
#175 to #173 - hellfiazz (05/22/2013) [-]
Yeah, you go buy an Alienware product.
User avatar #260 - skysailor (05/22/2013) [-]
Meh, I've got a ps3. If I get anything else, it'll probably be a gaming laptop.
User avatar #272 to #260 - evilklown ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
I was saying that. But I really love Console gaming. I don't know why, but I love it. I wasn't bought up a PC gamer, I was bought up a Console gamer - and I love it. Plus I don't have much money. Also - I really want to play the new inFamous game...
User avatar #277 to #272 - yusay ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
I've never understood this...Why do people say they don't have enough money for a gaming PC? Almost all those who buy a console also buy a weak computer or laptop. Instead of spending the money on both of those you could buy a decent PC.
User avatar #281 to #277 - evilklown ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
Plus, what if people just prefer Consoles? And use Laptops for Internet surfing. I'm not saying you are wrong - I agree with you, but in some situations, it's just better to buy what you like.
User avatar #279 to #277 - evilklown ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
When I bought my PS3, it was £299. When I got my laptop (2 years before) It was about £70. £370 is enough for a good gaming PC.
#282 to #279 - yusay ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
That's about 560 USD. A little less than the price I spent on a PC two years ago that can play Bioshock Infinite on Ultra today with no upgrades.
#283 to #282 - evilklown ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
Really? Wow, that's pretty good. I always thought that a good Gaming PC was £600-700... I may consider. But I have no money income right now. And I'd just rather have a console.
Not really related - but Bioshock Infinite was a very good game.

Premade ones are pretty expensive, but if you buy smart it isn't that hard. Hell, what I did was I bought a cheap PC then swapped out the parts that weren't good for gaming and popped in what I wanted. All for about 600 bucks. I bought a 1.5tb HDD later and swapped out the RAM(not an upgrade, just had a problem with it) but RAM is dirt cheap. Forgot about that.

Plus games are cheap as **** for PC.
User avatar #288 to #287 - evilklown ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
That was what I was going to do with my current laptop. I got 4 GB of Ram for this old thing, then I just need a new Processor and a Graphics card that can fit this piece of crap. I'm probably still going to game on my consoles, but play things like TF2 and Counterstrike on here.

Games are cheap as **** ? Yeah - Free is pretty cool aswell. Which is an idea I always enjoyed about PC gaming, the idea you can pirate Offline games.
User avatar #273 to #272 - skysailor (05/22/2013) [-]
Yeah I've always had consoles. I wouldn't mind switching though. Just need the money.
User avatar #274 to #273 - evilklown ONLINE (05/22/2013) [-]
I would love to TRY to switch, but I'm in the situation you're in. Oh well. I'll probably be a Console gamer for life.

Can someone explain to me what backwards compatibilty is? I can't brain today so have a picture for your troubles.
User avatar #227 to #217 - aesis (05/22/2013) [-]
Basically the ability to play previous generation games on a different generation console.

For example, the PS2 has backwards compatability.
This meant you could play PS1 games on it.

With the new Xbox, you wont be able to play Xbox 360 games on it.
User avatar #290 to #227 - lizardnigger (05/22/2013) [-]
I'm sure the new PS coming out won't be either

I'm a little behind on the new xbox. please tell me it will be backwards compatible... and could someone explain pre-rendered?
User avatar #246 to #219 - aerius (05/22/2013) [-]
It's not backward compatible. Plus as an added bonus, none of your xbox live purchases or achievement points will carry over. Fun times.
User avatar #220 to #219 - screamingcabbage (05/22/2013) [-]
I'm almost certain that it will not be backwards compatible because of the whole thing about stooping pre-owned games and 'the term pre-rendered describes anything that is not rendered in real-time. This includes content that could have been run in real-time with more effort on the part of the developer (e.g. video that covers a large number of a game's environments without pausing to load, or video of a game in an early state of development that is rendered in slow-motion and then played back at regular speed). The term is generally not used to describe video captures of real-time rendered graphics despite the fact that video is technically pre-rendered by its nature. '

so microsoft made all of the same **** mistakes sony did and more? you have got to be kidding me... I'm at the stage now where I don'y really play videogames much and I was looking for something awesome to convince me to buy a new console. Ill just stick with the 360 and ps2.
User avatar #309 to #308 - screamingcabbage (05/25/2013) [-]
You really are better off that way
I'm probably not going to going to buy the new consoles until at leat 1-2 years after release.
#223 - stankfinger (05/22/2013) [-]
"Your console either dies an awesome system, or you see it becoming something for people who don't give a rats ass about video games and the media that console use to support."

#121 to #119 - ohnotwoone (05/22/2013) [-]
Seriously though, the Xbox has to do something differnt than the PC, because it cant match that level of graphical fidelity and quality of games in general, and cant match the PS3 because it doesnt have as many good exclusives. So they went for making this, which I have been saying is exactly what they need to do, because now they are doing something that the other systems do not.
#140 to #121 - kerplunking (05/22/2013) [-]
What benefits do consoles have over PC?

-You can borrow games from your friends
-You can resell games
-No activation codes
-Games don't need to be installed

Microsoft just threw all of these advantages away. GG.
User avatar #149 to #140 - therealtjthemedic (05/22/2013) [-]
All those things actually work on PC tho.
#153 to #149 - kerplunking (05/22/2013) [-]
For some PC games, but not for many, whereas this was true for all console games in the previous generations.

As I said, there's now no benefit to using a console over a PC.
User avatar #134 - monsterman (05/22/2013) [-]
Honestly, between college and athletics, I see no reason why I should go out of my way to give them money for something they clearly didn't put much work into.
User avatar #113 - poiklman (05/22/2013) [-]
To be fair, the consoles need to be designed to offer something the PC lacks in function, because they know PC would win if they just played next gen games. Unfortunately those extra functions become **** like the kinect.
User avatar #108 - EvilWolf (05/22/2013) [-]
the fact that xbox one isnt backwards compatible just makes me want to throw a prototype of it into the ******* river
