if god was this kind and caring instead of a sadistic douche who enjoys watching people suffer ( ask job ) i wouldn't have any problem in turning christian

He is kind and caring. And Jesus spent his entire life helping people and vowed to help His children when they are in need. How is that not kind and caring? Read the scriptures and you will find your answers

god is caring however in today's world it seems god is absent and not without reason. The Covenant is the reason. it prevents god from interferring with humanity in a direct way whether it be for good or bad. such was God's sorrow after the flood that nearly wiped everything out that God locked its powers away from us so as to not destroy humanity for god saw the evil we were, and still are, capable of.

I believe God allows suffering is because it not only shows us that there is still good and bad in this world, but so we can use what he gave us and create a better world on our own, imagine playing the Sims and having a button that makes things perfect and none of your Sims had problems, it would not only be boring but they too would get bored.

Except genocide is not a joke.
Religion has brought only minor, individual, good the world. But it has never contributed anything positive to the community at large.
Christianity also helped spread individualism throughout America, which is why you're communitites aren't as together, and for the common good anymore.
In fact, any mention of the General Will and you get Glenn Beck ******** himself somewhere.

So they want to kill my citizens NOT because of religion?
Look at the Crusades. You can look at how the politics and economics of it motivated the leaders, but the people fighting truly believed they were fighting for God, how dare you take that away from them! I acknowledge that their belief was wrong, but you're completely taking away that belief.

i'm not even going to bother to look at that.
you keep doing the same thing.

the bible says not to murder, so if they were following it, would they want to kill your citizens? (the ones that don't actually belong to you)

and people kill people for no reason plenty of times too. people used to kill people for land, now for oil...

you make it sound like murder would disappear in the world without religion.

human nature is selfish and cruel with, or without religion.
there are examples of atheists doing horrible things too.

Americans used to enslave people because of ******* skin color!
No, i don't think religion would've stopped slavery. same thing with rape, genocides, and everything else.

I'm going to bed dude.
I find Christianity suspicious, but I can't just shut it down without thoroughly studying it.
(you know, the thing you do.)

my point is that religion forces nothing on anyone. we completely ignore the parts of the bible we don't like. we completely ignore laws we don't like. (speeding, etc.)

and those wars would've happened if people wanted them to. religion is just an excuse to force your will on someone. a ****** excuse.
and on that note, Atheism was an excuse to to some horrible things in Soviet Russia.

don't pin this **** on some words in a book. it's the ******* people.

The idea that you can blame God for what you do, even though he "gave" you free will is kinda stupid.

Free will is something that points to the non-existence of God.
The idea that we have a separate will from other people came from socrates, when he started questioning the nature of our affiliation with the state.
Rousseau took it a step further when he began questioning if he was his own man, whether he was a separate person from other people.
And Hegel took it one step on to go as far as to say that it is us who is in charge of our own motives.

Please don't tell me that God "gave" us free will. The Bible et al religious doctrines could not account for free will, because the ************* notion didn't even exist.
Dogmatic institutions later had to accommodate the idea because people were beginning to question the church's authority, and whether they needed a ruler-ship at all.
I know that you've been indoctrinated, and I can only feel sympathy for you, but please, take a minute to actual question our existence, and not just blindly follow what some doctrine says.

also, you can't prove that we didn't come up with those theories before.

we have a very vague understanding of human history, once we go back around 6,000 years.
Christianity could still be false, but to say that all our "new" discoveries are original is laughable in my opinion. trying to tell me that we've been around for thousands of years, and we JUST found out we have individuality? it took us this long to find out we're separate people? maybe i should pity you.

We have quite an extensive knowledge of our history actually.
Seriously, there's so much information out there, and we're learning more and more everyday.
Like we've found out so much from our own nature because of what we've learned from the past. It was the "past" that gave you everything you own today.

I cannot believe how ignorant you are. Do you think that in pre-Revolution France everybody had the same idea of equality? Or do you think they were more concerned with farming the live? Do you think 8th Century Egyptian slaves had any notion that they were equal, and therefor free? Or do you think that they believed they were all part of a pre-set plan, given to them by their Gods, ergo completely removing the idea of free choice, ergo removing the notion of individuality.
It was only until people started questioning our nature, and our relationship to each other, that notions of liberty and "private property" began to emerge.
Have a think about the facts before you truly believe that the notion of the individual is not a relatively new notion in the history of humanity.

I don't think I would say mine was a biased question. A person made a statement saying God was not kind, and I asked who says he isn't kind. I was looking for a discussion of opinions and thoughts on the matter. Instead I have a reply from you with an insult to the intelligence of anyone who doesn't think the way you do on the subject. At least that is what I gather.

I'm used to it. In truth I found it more of a rude statement than insulting. I guess in a sense that is what an insult is no? I capitalized God because I use it as a name rather than just a title. I have my own beliefs, but I am open to hear others as long as they are in a decent manner.
