I did a project about The Principality of Sealand in oral communications class. It's an old artillery base off the coast of Great Britain. It's got its own currency, the Sealand dollar, that has a fixed rate equal to that of the U.S. dollar. It's defended itself against invaders when pirates attacked, and it's got its own royal family.

Rock on, Sealand.

One of my friends is technically a 'lady of sealand'. You can buy land there for really cheap and have an official title.
