**SILENCEnight rolled a random image posted in comment #1900745 at Friendly ** Its simple psychology. When the brain sees the middle part coming towards you, it judges its speed and relates that speed to the speed of the dots on the border as well. Thus, when you cover the middle with your fist the brain just lost its frame of reference and thus does not know what speed to except for the dots on the border and judges it independently of the middle portion.
