With basic zoom settings my fist covers it up so I guess it completely stops for me.

put your hands on the outside and you go slpwerr, put your hand in the middle and you go faster

its because your brain assumes the same is happening under your hand as it sees what is happening around your hand.

**SILENCEnight rolled a random image posted in comment #1900745 at Friendly ** Its simple psychology. When the brain sees the middle part coming towards you, it judges its speed and relates that speed to the speed of the dots on the border as well. Thus, when you cover the middle with your fist the brain just lost its frame of reference and thus does not know what speed to except for the dots on the border and judges it independently of the middle portion.
