As far as I am aware, you can be straight, bisexual, homosexual, or asexual? other things people have told me don't seem to fit the actual definition of what sexuality is, so i don't see how there could be so many. Unless of course there are a bunch of weird ass hipster underground sexualities that people are trying to identify with just for the sake of being different. Not trying to be ignorant.
User avatar #512 to #506 - awesomenessdefined (04/22/2013) [-]
>pansexuals

The new bisexuals, apparently. Cringe every time I here them say it's a real thing, and not just edgy bisexuality.
User avatar #516 to #512 - dblej (04/22/2013) [-]
Pansexuality is more along the lines of being personality based. Bisexuals tend to be predominantly attracted to one sex over the other.
User avatar #518 to #516 - awesomenessdefined (04/22/2013) [-]
So what I'm hearing is, bisexuality isn't a real thing, just people who like to experiment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though.
User avatar #526 to #518 - dblej (04/22/2013) [-]
Yes and no. There are certainly some people, mainly the young teenage girls, who only claim to be bisexual after experimenting one time. However, there are people who are genuinely attracted to males and females. The difference between this and pansexuality is that they aren't attracted solely by personality. Typically they are also not attracted to trans individuals, although that depends on the features of the person in question and the tastes of the Bisexual.
User avatar #513 to #506 - alexthebest (04/22/2013) [-]
The pic is referring to gender identity, but as for your question, I would imagine there are in-betweens. Maybe someone is gay but find the occasional woman attractive and may have dated one or two. I also heard about people who aren't physically attracted to anyone until they get to know them on a really personal, emotional level.
User avatar #519 to #513 - awesomenessdefined (04/22/2013) [-]
I think that's called falling in love.
User avatar #523 to #519 - alexthebest (04/22/2013) [-]
But to not be attracted to anyone at all until you get to know someone?
User avatar #524 to #523 - awesomenessdefined (04/22/2013) [-]
Kinda i guess. Imagine a really fat chick or something.
#515 to #506 - dblej (04/22/2013) [-]
The whole idea behind this is Gender Identity not sexual orientation. Gender identity is how you perceive what gender you view yourself as being. Gender is the mental aspect of it, while sex is the physical. These are typically the Trans individuals whose gender identity doesn't match their sex. There's also the term Genderqueer and that's a blanket term used to describe anyone who doesn't fit into the mental male or female binary. A man who identifies as a woman still fits into this binary because he views himself as being a female which is one of the two accepted gender roles. That's the jist of gender identity. As for sexuality, you for the most part had it right. You did leave out another widespread orientation which is Pansexuality. Pansexuals aren't attracted to a person based on their gender like you or I are attracted to predominantly males, females, or both in the case of bisexuals. Pansexuals are more attracted to the personality of the individual and don't care if the person is male, female, trans, or genderqueer. There are people who don't feel like they don't fit into these categories and though I don't know any of them, I'd say there are some that want to be different and there are those who genuinely don't feel like they belong to any established gender. I hope this helps because this is the only practical use I've found for my human sexuality class so far. Here's a puppy for reading.

I think the thing I hate most about all this gender identity nonsense is that at the college in the area I live, which is a respectable institution, there are 34 Gender Identity courses, and only 3 Political History courses.
11 times as many courses about an issue that afflicts, at the highest rate estimate, 1 in 10000 people, than courses about something that affects 10000 in 10000 people.
User avatar #528 to #522 - whipptron (04/22/2013) [-]
Gender identity affects alot more than 1 in 10000. in my experience it's closer to about 1 in 40-50.

Most people just don't talk about it though, even if they are going through it.
#529 to #528 - John Cena (04/22/2013) [-]
Even taking your anecdotal evidence over statistical evidence, more people are affected by politics. Far more.
User avatar #531 to #529 - whipptron (04/22/2013) [-]
still, I've never even heard of a college offering "gender Identity courses"

What would they even teach? "It's okay to want to wear a skirt if you're a guy, just please shave your legs. Class dissmissed!"?

So I'd say your school is unusual.

So many people saying sex=/=gender.
If you're a man, you're a man.
If you're a woman, you're a woman.
If you feel you were wrongly assigned, you have a mental disorder.
The end.
#491 to #476 - happyphoton (04/21/2013) [-]
Do angry black men read?
The WHO and DSM say gender is a spectrum from Male to female and beyond that. As much as one in 10,000 births are neither male nor female, some are both, some are none, most are one... and within those that are one, none or both are people who identify as straight, gay ,bi or not sexually attracted to anything.

You could have someone with the body of a man but a the brain of a women, someone who was born a women but physically the brain is characteristic of a typical male brain etc etc.
Mental disorders or diseases have to physically affect you detrimentally or cause harm or distress to yourself or others. (Not society)

But by all means hate faggots for another reason, just not that one.

what is the -mental disorder- causing one to have a gender different to their sex? i dont think you'll find it in any scientific, medical, or psychological journals. personally i like to think that the reason for this is that you are full of ****
like if people really wanna be a boy even though they have a vagina, let them do it and dont be a dick to them. that would be really cool
User avatar #497 to #490 - darkfuzion (04/21/2013) [-]
I think anon is saying that is they think that they should be the opposite gender, which (I think) is different from wanting to be the opposite gender, which is what I got from your comment.
#551 to #497 - John Cena (04/22/2013) [-]
no i know what you're talking about
that's called gender dysphoria, most commonly seen as "why couldn't i have been born a girl/boy" and its pretty much the reason for sex changes most of the time
and that is indeed what i was referring to
gender dysphoria isnt professionally listed as a mental disorder anywhere (the point i was making)
and if people have gender dysphoria and would be happier if you treated them as their preferred gender, doing so would be really cool. that was my other point
youre right in that there is a difference between gender dysphoria and "itd be cool to be a boy i guess" but i was talking about gender dysphoria
#553 to #551 - John Cena (04/22/2013) [-]
Yes, it would be really cool if I treated them as the gender they want to be identified as, but that doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with them wanting to be identified as something that they aren't.

ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Asians hide their mind reading abilities by having completely expressionless faces so they don't accidently show facial expressions when people think things they don't like, find funny, astonishing, etc, and Asians segregate so their not nearly as susceptible to that happening.
Asians also segregate, and are untaltative to avoid accidently saying things that are similar to what people are thinking and going to say.

All Asians are keeping their mind reading abilities a secret, they don't want ANYBODY to know that they can read minds, they will never seriously admit that they can read minds!

Try thinking, and visualy picturing things in your mind that are as wild as you can when you are around Asians, and look for Asians who give people dirty/particlar looks for what appears to be for completely no reason.

PLEASE SPREAD THE MESSAGE!!!!! THE WORLD NEEDS TO FIND THIS OUT!!!!!
