I have a mac, and I like it, but it isn't good for games. So i'm trying to get a new gaming PC. Any recommendations for a good gaming PC at a decent price?
User avatar #221 to #139 - lesrin (04/21/2013) [-]
it all depends on how much you know about comps, you can buy a preset theyre simple and good, just open the box and your ready to go, but if you really know what your doing you can buy a comp part by part and assemble it your self, for the best deal since it will have top of the line parts and its usally cheaper, a good place to do this is newegg.com

I know a lot about computers, but not setting them up. How hard would setting up a gaming PC be? Again, I know my stuff about computers, but i'm no IT guy.

I bought this one. Very cheap, works amazing. I can play Dead Space 3 without any lag. I'll be trying Bioshock Infinite soon as well.
#174 to #164 - nailman (04/20/2013) [-]
Thanks. It can handle very graphic intensive games?
User avatar #186 to #174 - murdershy (04/20/2013) [-]
I don't know how well, like I've never tried Crysis 2 on max setting (since I don't have the game). But So far every game I've ever tried works on the best settings, if not 1 or 2 lower. Currently playing through Dead Space 3, Assassin's creed Revelations, an mmo called The Secret World, and a bunch more. All of which worked fine. If you would like, I could test a game for you before you make any final decisions.

I'm not incredibly interested in absolutely great graphics. I really just need some regular steam games to work, ex: Garry's mod, Killing Floor, The walking dead, Etc. Thanks again for the help.

Why are Mac's considered as bad computers?
User avatar #144 to #73 - pwnfrnzy ONLINE (04/20/2013) [-]
Mac vs. Windows may come to a screeching halt since Microsoft shot themselves in the foot with Windows 8 and are now looking down the barrel of the same loaded gun with a finger on the trigger.
And the "Windows Blue" ain't gonna fix the mess at all.
So I believe it will be Mac vs. Linux as Microsoft seems to have a hard-on for touch-based operating platforms and people migrate to Linux (what I'll be doing when Windows 7 support ends).
User avatar #169 to #144 - umaya (04/20/2013) [-]
They are all terrible, but have some things which make them better, the problems with windows 8 have mostly been around since xp, mac is made by apple so the normal arguments are there, and linux isn't that good for games, and if someone made a really user friendly ubuntu without needing that damn terminal that could play games like windows, everyone would use it.
I want microsoft to go completely bust and sell windows to someone else, like sony who will make a company merged with several others like toshiba (and some other japanese technology companies with high reputation) and make a new os, based off windows, but completely changed so it doesn't have all the ****** problems, but keeping all the good stuff.
User avatar #151 to #144 - kschmidty (04/20/2013) [-]
no offense.

No problem man, not everyone is as strongly into computers as others.
#116 to #73 - anonymous (04/20/2013) [-]
It's not the computers that are considered bad (except for their major overpricing) so much as it is the company and its fanbase that's bad.

A lot of it is people jumping on the bandwagon, they hate anything Apple because the internet tells them to.

I use a MacBook for uni and general browsing etc and honestly I prefer it to any windows based laptop I've used. The multi-gesture trackpad is really useful, the screen is better than any windows running laptops (I honestly can't believe laptops are still manufactured with 1366x768 displays) and the battery life is pretty good.

I use a Custom built PC running windows as my main PC, play a lot of games which just isn't good on a laptop.

Macs also have very high resell value, I could put this up on ebay for as much as I paid for it (I got £500 off a refurbished machine).

If you don't like Apple that's fine but being on the hate wagon is simply embarrassing, come on people you're better than that. Apple haters are worse than the sub-human Xbox vs PS3 retards.

(also inb4 "hurr you could have brought a windows laptop for less money", I wanted to try something new, and have lots of money.)
User avatar #117 to #99 - kschmidty (04/20/2013) [-]
Thank you for the info. if you don't mind me asking is there any way to play Windows games on a Mac?
User avatar #123 to #117 - joshlol, inventor of being lonely (04/20/2013) [-]
You can run Windows in a virtual environment on mac so you could just do it through that. Not sure if that would affect the in-game performance though.

****** OS, made to break, made to not be repaired or serviced therefore you have to buy a new one, very expensive for no reason whatsoever.
User avatar #219 to #79 - lasmamoe (04/21/2013) [-]
Where did you get those ridiculous ideas?
Macbooks last for years. Have had my macbook for 5 years, way longer than any computer ive ever had, and it still runs smooth.

You can replace many parts by yourself, and apple even has guides for doing so.
They are more expensive than your regular laptop because they spend a ******** of time on the design of the laptop.
Some people may not give a crap about computer design, like some people dont give a crap about car design.
But some people do.

EDIT: had one detail wrong.

It means Operating System. For example Windows is an operating system, same with the Mac's OS X.

And a heads up on Apple's website, the cheapest Macbook is $1200 US.

I find them difficult to handle. I'm more used to PCs, and even though I'm not great with computers it's easier for me to figure out what I don't know how to do on a PC than on a Mac since the layout is easier for me to understand.

I don't hate on Macs, but I just don't like them.

As long as the computer is powered off and is not turned on until completely dry, it should be fine.
User avatar #43 to #31 - cfeuer (04/20/2013) [-]
except even if the battery is removed and its powered off, there is still small charges going through it at all times(motherboard and processor).

am i lying? how do you think your computer knows what time it is when its been off for the night/day/longer.
User avatar #264 to #43 - Fgner ONLINE (04/21/2013) [-]
Actually no.

Those units are separate RTC chips built into the motherboard. When the power is turned off, the RTC switches off it's access to the external world (beyond receiving power again), and uses it's own closed circuit within the chip to continue the timing. The seal used in these chips is almost always completely airtight.

However, most good motherboards won't completely break even if the RTC chip is broken. But you can bet it'll have some bugs when it comes to timing related tasks.
