Let's say we have 100 pilots, 44% of that is obviously 44, and this is 33% of 44%, so that's 14.52 (round it to 15) so about 15 out of 100 instances would that occur.. even if you did fly often, that's not completely terrible odds

Ass because of reading math

Is it 33% of all pilots, or 33% of the 43% that fall asleep?
#18 - xxxsonic fanxxx (03/30/2013) [-]
of course they fall asleep. there isn't anything else to do. The pilot's job is to get it in the air, make sure they are going to the right location and land it. everything else is just on auto-pilot. Don't get me wrong. I respect pilots and their job is obviously very demanding, but when they're already in the air, there isn't too much that they do until they get close to the destination

Considering how easy it is for humans to make a mistake and how much the computers manage the plane. I would actually prefer a computer flying the plane than a human pilot.

That's why most pilots are on speed..

Honesty the airplane will fly its self. All they have to do is land and takeoff.

My cousin is a pilot and I can assure you that firstly, all pilots are supposed to take naps especially on long flight and also that planes fly themselves so it does not mstter if both fall asleep unless they are taking off and landing, and most times both are awake during both take off and landing, and certainly one if awake.

Yeah well nowadays the only use for a pilot is in the case of am emergency, other than that a modern jet can fly and land completely on its own

Military pilots sometimes sleep during flight as well.

And here I was, thinking the joke was the fact that they fell asleep, and aren't the ones on the plane flying it.
<gif unrelated.

Planes fly themselves, they can even take off and land by themselves, but since that's literally the only job commercial pilots have to do, and it's too risky to just not have anyone in the cockpit, they still have the pilots takeoff/land the place. Also it's kind of like an art to see how smooth you can make the landing, and no computer can do it as well as a human. Cars can also drive themselves, in about 10-15 years we'll start seeing them on the road, but obviously they're doing extensive testing to make sure they function properly in every conceivable situation. One single death caused by a self-driving car would be unacceptable. States have to have laws making them legal, I know California and Nevada already passed the law, which makes sense because Claifornia has lots of druggies and Las Vegas has lots of drunks.
