As a nation you are entitled to ban anyone you dislike from entering your country. People may get pissy with you if you do it but it is the same principle as not letting convicted criminals/terrorists or sex-offenders to cross your borders.

The only real difference is that the above three instances are convicted criminals with the chance for reformation whereas the members of the WBC are not only still active but the things they say are arguably liable to get them sued for harassment.

The UK has already banned them (since August 2009) and a number of religious organisations from within the UK have supported the decision.

Under what justification, though?

I can't imagine them doing it for anything but classifying the WBC as a hate group.

I'm easily on the fence about this. On one side the westboro church is a cruel and disgusting church which I feel strongly against like most people. On the other hand they have mostly followed the law. They do not initiate any violence with the other parties, they do not pass the barrier when it comes to funerals, etc. Now if you ever have read " if you give a mouse a cookie" you will see the mouse will gradually demand more things. You can easily associate this with Canada and how they are starting to ban citizens who have not in any way disturbed the peace and might eventually start to ban other people from entering based on certain things. I'm not saying I support them, I am just stating that that banning them JUST because they are massive ******* douche bags does not give the Canadian government a valid reason considering how they are a leading country in freedom. I just feel as if Canada is putting its emotional feelings into freedom of speech which I do not approve of. Sorry if this offended anyone.

I'm always amazed how quickly people abandon the tradition of respecting people's right to free speech. Whatever happened to "I disapprove of what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?
User avatar #27 to #22 - awildniglet (03/26/2013) [-]
Canada =/= US
They don't give a **** about your right to free speech/belief
User avatar #297 - zeroxnight (03/26/2013) [-]

This is stupidly relevant as a Canadian student procrastinating about writing a paper about the westbro baptist church...
