The awkward moment when you realize

loves comes from the brain
and
an erection from the brain as well....

Shut up, Meg! ((Everyone was right, that *is* fun!))

Anyway, uh....what was I gonna say? Oh yeah! While what you say is true that as a reaction to certain stimuli (which is completely neurological) the brain does send the signals to start an erection (yes, that's right ladies; it's a reaction and not an choice). However, since an erection is nothing more than the holding of additional blood in the penile tissue, it could also be said that the heart is responsible for it because it needs to keep the blood moving to wherever it needs to go, yeah?

Anyway, I like the post as is because it really brings new meaning to phrase "the heart wants what the heart wants", amirite?

P.S. Fun fact: In older times, the heart was not considered to be the organ of love, but rather the liver. :)

The heart doesn't act independently

Indeed it doesn't and if I ever implied that it did, then I am remiss. What I was trying to convey is that the brain gives the orders and specifications, and the heart (and other things, of course) carry out those orders. I guess the analogy I have in my head is the waiter/cook relationship; the waiter relays the customers' orders and all the customizations to the cook who then proceeds to prepare said orders in accordance with the instructions given them. So the real question is, who is responsible for the end result of getting the food to the customer? Certainly the cook doesn't act independently as they can't just make what they want and their job provides them know outlet to get orders themselves, but at the same time all the waiter can do is take input and pass along messages. And while, truthfully, things are only successful when everything is working together as a system, depending upon our mood and thought process will lean towards pointing our finger in one direction or another. So in correlation to that, saying that love comes strictly from the brain is fallacious, too. But regardless, the point is, just because it's not 100% right or accurate doesn't mean it can't be worth a chuckle, eh?

Let me tell you exactly how an erection occurs
The Helicine arteries, which are branches of the deep artery of the penis open into the cavernae. The veins draining the cavernae are located at the periphery of the corpus cavernosum, besides tunica albuginea. The helicine arteries possess special smooth muscle valves called "Ebner's cushions" These valvles are usually closed, and allow very little blood through. The small amount that might come through is easily drained by the veins.
During sexual excitement the Ebner's cushions open, and allow blood to flow through, and fill up the cavernae.
the blood influx compresses the veins against tunica albuginea so that the blood can not be drained by the veins.
at the end of the erection, the cushions close, blood flow decreases , veins get decompressed and manage to drain the cavernae, thus emptying them and terminating the erection.
The Bulbospongiosus muscle cause the propelling force of ejaculation.
