Police state? In what universe does America contain anything remotely similar to a police state?

I know, I hear so many of these super libertarian people say that and I just don't understand why they think that way. Probably because they tend to do more illegal activities because they don't respect authority in anyway, and thus end up imprisoned more frequently, fueling their unnecessary anger.

It's insulting to people that actually lived in a police state. Oh, what, you were a public disruption and you got in trouble for it? Must have been so hard for you!

I'm not saying I believe we are a police state, but here is the argument for it.

Ok, lets get some definitions here.

Police State: A totalitarian state controlled by a political secret police force.

You can say we are not a totalitarian state because we have a democracy, but we have a representative democracy, which leaves very few people in power. Sure we have checks and balances, but look at what is going on in D.C. now, it is pretty much a political game. Another part of being a totalitarian state is having control over both the private and public sectors. Most politicians today have very strong ties to private businesses and it is shown in many laws that are passed. Now you can say, well we chose our representatives. Ask your average person how many people ran for president in 2012 and they will say 2, they actually aren't that wrong because the others stood no chance. So pretty much our politicians are either going to be a republican or a democrat. Though it may seem that Republicans and Democrats have conflicting ideals on every topic, some people believe they distract us with those debates to reach their common goal, more federal power, almost like a secret political force.

But what about the police part? Well everything anon is said is true, Obama has been doing the same things as Bush. From being on FJ, you should have heard of SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, and anything like them. Those would have censored the internet, a character of a police state. What about NDAA. Currently the government has the right to detain you indefinitely without a trial or warrant if you are a "suspected terrorist". Look at this video of a drone the government is currently working on:
