Helloo! I am doctor Katz! And I will talk to you about SHUT THE FUCK UP!
Incorrect: This was actually first used by the Nazi Soldiers working in Death Camps. The MP-40 Submachine Gun had quite a bit of vertical recoil so to stream line the killing of Jews using Guns they would hold it sideways using the Recoil to their advantage. d

Recoil is the force going backwards, into the shooter.
The muzzle jump is what creates a horizontal sweep when the gun is held sideways.
Technicalities, I know.

Soldiers fire guns sideways when using gas masks since the filters make it difficult to get proper sight picture when aiming normally.
I heard that it came from rebels (not sure where from, somewhere in the Middle East I'm guessing) who held there guns sideways for no other reason than to look different

US Soldiers in WW2 used to hold the Thompson sideways when firing it. Its high rate of fire allowed it to be used in a sweeping motion, thus improving accuracy.
