"Mr Edison, we're going to use your invention to power the world. And Mr Tesla, we're going to use yours in the background of Frankenstein movies."

I don't think he invented the Death Ray, but was in the process of building one. Plus, I wanna see how it would have looked :(

There's a museum in Serbia dedicated to Tesla, they have majority of his pamphlets, one of them with the death ray, you can see the blueprints in a film they play about Tesla's work and acheivements.

Why is everyone knocking Edison? He was a great inventor, but a better business man. Without either of them the world would be dramatically different.

Edison was a complete dick and a liar. He willingly supported something he knew was dangerous, did cruel demonstrations on animals in the streets in an attempt to convey his opponent's products as dangerous, and stole ideas from other people. Those contributions would have been made with or without him. He was just a huge douchebag who took credit for everything.

People like to read one-sided arguments (In this case, theoatmeal- a comic maker of all people) and then solidifying them as facts all the while bashing anyone who tried to contradict them.

There's a load of vaguely famous scientists that contributed more than you could imagine. What about ************ Faraday?

If anyone wants it, I have a picture of Mark Twain in Tesla's lab.
I'm not sure if this is real or not, though. If anyone can properly verify this, it'll be much appreciated.

It's real, tesla and mark were close friends

Thanks! I didn't even know that.
It's kind of endearing, actually.

He was friends with many writers, he even befriended a man who would later become a nazi propaganda artist. Themoreyouknow.jpg

he also almost destroyed a whole street with his earthquake machine..
#378 to #364 - ajcredbaron (02/02/2013) [-]
That is actually apocryphal, they tested it on Mythbusters.
User avatar #415 to #378 - bluelightbebop (02/02/2013) [-]
They concluded that if they gave MORE time to the machine, it could destroy the bridge it was installed on.

That's what a resonator does, and it was deemed Plausible by scientists.
Not by 2 guys that have more than 30 years of experience in Special Effects. (They are awesome... Yeah, but still, no full fledged engineers and / or scientist.)
User avatar #404 to #378 - alterbyme (02/02/2013) [-]
The Mythbusters aren't scientists to any degree. They're entertainers. Nothing they do have any merit.
