Lmao the only time they would refuse to let you have cash would be if you are under 18. THEN they can only give you store credit. I love how people are on this site are always looking to call someone a liar or "expose" them or some stupid bullshit.

When you think about it, they only make money on trade-ins and pre-owned games. They can't spend too much money buying old games that are in lower demand, otherwise they won't be able to bring in the higher demand games like COD, Halo, Battlefield, etc. Even if you hate these games, you can't deny that they are the highest in demand every goddamn year.

Its your fault for trading into Gamestop anyway. Gamestopo is a mainstream company. They make money of what's new and popular. If you trade in old as fuck games, that are only truly valuable to the minority (IE: Intelligent gamers, and ergo, you shouldn't be trading those games in anyway.) then they're going to know that their main customer base, (IE: The CoDfag or other such person that buys only the new games just because it's new), isn't going to care as much about those games, and they're just going to sit on the shelf. Its business. If you don't like it.....
SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Its a free market people. If you don't like what they offer you for your games, sell them on ebay or craigslist or something. The only way they can continue to rip you off for your games is if you continue to sell to them! But you won't take 2 minutes and post an ad on ebay. Instead you'll spend 2 minutes posting a meme bitching about how you sold gamestop some games, agreed to their offer, and they ripped you off.
TL;DR: Bitching about gamestop ripping you off after you agree to the price is like a woman bitching about being raped after getting naked, saying ok, and assuming the position.

that's a bit of an exaggeration I think $9 is a much more realistic number

Sorry, we don't accept any Atari, NES, SNES, N64, Sega, GameBoy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Original XBox, Playstation, Gamecube, ya know, we pretty much don't take anything that has been around for more than 7 years except for the 10000 PS2 titles that we can only give you 5 cents each for. .... I may or may not work at a Gamestop here in Salt Lake City. You guys can hate the company all you want, but please remember that as employees we don't control anything in the computer. We don't deal with sales, prices, or anything like that. We have to do and say what the company tells us, it's not our fault that they only give $30 for a $65 game, but you guys telling us how bad we suck at our jobs and how shitty the company is doesn't help the situation any. But I guess our opinionated customers are always right aren't they....... Just my 2 cents.
TL;DR - Yelling at Gamestop employees about preowned prices gets you nowhere.

Some of the employees are shit though, it was for the double value weekend I was trying to trade in my xbox 360, bought it from a friend for $60. They told me they could give me $100 for it. The guy picked up the controller first and saw the rubber on it was split and told me the most i could get was $25. He didnt look at anything else. I said hell no to that and took it home and super-glued the rubber so it wouldnt move. Took it to a different location and they looked at it and told me that i could get $90 for it. Goes to show that some employees are nice and some are assholes. Every time i go to gamestop and the first guy is there he is always trying to screw me in some way. Most employees are cool, some are just total dicks.

I feel your pain man. I work at an independent video game store, and my infinite rage is tapped every time someone comes and bitches about why their outdated sports titles are coming out with such low values. I feel like yelling "BE GLAD I'M GIVING YOU FIVE CENTS FOR YOUR SHITTY GAME THAT WILL NEVER SELL YOU PRICK!" But smile and nod. smile and nod. "Come back if you reconsider. Have a nice day."

and I feel bad that you have to put up with peoples shit. I feel great knowing that I'm part of the group of people that can go to Gamestop and not bitch at the person for what i get back. They could have took it for a lot less so I guess something is better than nothing. Also I'm not sure if people understand that there are some games that not too many people want, which could possibly be a reason why they buy games back so cheap(I'm just guessing being I've never been employed at Gamestop).
That's a big part of it. Supply and demand works really well when it's pulling both ways, but when we have a massive supply and there is no demand. EX: 32 copies of the first Modern Warfare in a back room, means that we aren't going to be giving out top dollar on that game. If it's like that at one Gamestop, it's like that at all of them pretty much. Prices are always changing, and their are usually promotions to give a good amount of return for In-store credit to get people more than they expected. I just think people need to be reeducated on the fact that treating the front desk person like shit doesn't change anything. As for you being someone who doesn't treat us badly, Thank You. A little kindness goes a long way these days. Who knows, come in enough and treat us well, we may just be able to help you out too when you need it most.
I have a question for you, person who may or may not work at Gamestop.
I know that the uppers tell you guys that you have to try and push pre-orders on customers, as well as signing up for the online Gamestop Rewards thingy, but why is it even after I say "No" the cashier will keep trying to shove it down my throat? (I'm not meaning that as insult, that's just how it really feels at times)
Are there supervisors always standing close by, monitoring what they do or some such? I understand offering it, but I always felt like the employee starts getting desperate after I say "No".

We get judged on our numbers just like any sales job, and yes we can get in a lot of trouble if we don't mention that stuff to customers. Corporate tells us what to say when we answer the phone, what to say during transactions, sales points, and other stuff like that. We HAVE to say it. Honestly I don't care if you want to be a member/pre-order or not. But being a mild inconvenience to you is a lot better than losing a job.
But at the same time, you have to avoid ticking off your customers.
Offer it once, I say No. End of it. Mentioning what game is going to be awesome isn't going to change my mind. I know what I wanted when I walked through the door, and I have it in my hand.
If I appeared indecisive, then sure, try to convince me. Or, if I'm an un-informed parent or so some such, then I'll probably be willing to listen to your suggestions.
All of this is more of a rant at the uppers of Gamestop, not directed at you or any employees (although some were jerks, but for other reasons). Shopping there would be a lot more enjoyable if I didn't feel like I was answering the door for Jehovah Witnesses, and the management needs to realize that.

Yes, they do cram a lot of info down your throat that can roughly translate in English to: MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY. Those customer surveys you take though ask if we mention all those points, how helpful we were, and so forth. We don't know which customers will actually take the survey, so we have to mention it to everyone. If I get someone like you who comes in and makes it clear that isn't what they're looking for then I don't mention it, I don't press the issue. I'm there to help you find stuff and take your money, I only say all that crap because it's in the job description.
I love how people bitch about your prices for selling our used games... option 1 could be dont sell your games. Gamestops main profit is used games, as new games only have a mark up of 5-10%, that is not nearly enough for a company to survive.
Exactly, Almost every customer looks at me like I just punched their child in the face when I tell them what we give for used games. I don't give a shit whether or not people sell it to us, I don't care if you fill out a customer survey about me, but yelling and throwing a fit definitely doesn't make me want to help a customer any more.
My brother sold almost all of my old games for $90 at GS. I kept 10 games out of the 100.
What a waste.
What a waste.
There is this one shop called Video Time, they actually buy the games and controllers and movies and shit for 25% of what they intend on selling them for. Made a ton of money off my PSX games, sold Legend of Dragoon and got 25$. Just gotta look hard enough and you'll be able to cash in.

I called Vintage Stock and asked how much they would give me for a good condition N64, with cords, a controller, and an expansion pak.
"That'll get you about 7 in cash."
...
"...7 in cash."
Fuck you, Vintage Stock
