Actually, I'm looking forward to this movie, to see if they **** it op, or do it right.

Jar Jar Binks, young Vader (the actor), complete disregard for the series...

Yeah I have high hopes for this movie.

Abrams hasn't steered me wrong before. I'm excited.

Disney - Can provide a huge budget. Can get great actors. Hires good production team, director and writers.
Star Wars VII - Not something to trifle with lightly. Too many fans of the series to simply breeze over. Must be done right or is a CAREER ENDING move for anyone apart of this.

Conclusion: It will be good, it literally has to. But don't expect it to be like the originals or even like the prequels. It will bring a new essence to the story.

Well, the new Tron movie was made by Disney and had a good cast and a huge budget, but it was terrible. Also, before episodes 1-3 of Star Wars were made, the series was "nothing to trifle with" and a huge fan base, but all the recent Star Wars (arguably) sucked fat donkey dick. So I see a flaw in your logic.
User avatar #149 to #147 - eight (01/30/2013) [-]
Tron had good acting, good graphics and a good story, all the elements needed to be a good movie. It was liked by a large amount of the public, but ultimately, it was an idea that is still too far fetched just as it was for the original. People just can't get around to the idea.

The prequels stand on their own. The first episode has some abysmal characters, but overall they are liked by the new generation of Star Wars fans and many of the old generation too. Each movie got better in quality, but it could not completely wipe the bad parts away which had embedded itself into the story; like the Trade Federation, Droids, and Gunguns.

But also understand that old generation fans were expecting a trilogy of movies that were going to feel like the originals. That mistake won't be made again ( I hope).

I think it'll be a money-grabbing spectacle, like Avatar but with a lower budget. Disney can't take a chance with a series this popular so they're probably gonna reuse as much as they can from the originals.

Of course if it's done well it will be a a redeeming moment for the series and no baby will cry for months.
User avatar #150 to #146 - eight (01/30/2013) [-]
I guarantee you it won't be like the originals. They were made in a different time, almost an entirely different culture. It was one of the first space opera spectacles of modern Sci-Fi which is whatcaptivated audiences world wide. When the prequels arrived, it didn't truly bring anything new to the series or genre other than great effects.
No one makes movies like the originals anymore.

The new Star Wars will largely conform to what is popular in the past decade, large battles, huge breathtaking effects, and less storyline. Although, with J.J Abrams taking the reigns, he won't allow this film to be driven by only cool effects, he will make sure it has a solid storyline worthy of the Star Wars saga.

I suppose you're right, but I don't entirely trust Abrams to make the right decision. From what I've seen his directing is hit-or-miss when it comes to quality, and doubly so for the writing.

On the one hand, it's Star Wars made by Disney- this could really go anywhere. On the other hand, it's more Star Wars. Thus, I am both excited and a little cautious.

You realize it's the same thing they're doing with Marvel right? Lucasarts is overseeing the entire thing, it's just getting money from Disney.
