Fun fact: before funnyjunk was a gay pride site, it was a site that hosted funny pictures.

I don't get the 'gay is not a choice' slogan.
Technically being gay is a sexual preference, to have a preference you must make a definite choice. Anyone care to explain what I'm missing?
#212 to #123 - dimppa (01/27/2013) [-]
<- everyone in here. But i agree with you
and to everyone else i kinda choose.
#182 to #123 - fefe (01/27/2013) [-]
first off percentage of gays that are gay as a preference compared to completely gay is relatively same percent as percentage of straight that are straight as a preference compared to completely straight. saying its a preference would mean they get turned on by people of the same sex more than opposite, this could be fixed (e.g. 97% gay, 3% straight) or it could be fluid (gay one day, straight the next, 40/60 another day)
this implies the Kinsey scale in which case very few are exclusively gay or straight, and rare for 50/50 bi

now also while on preference, one may prefer t.v. or video game, and another may prefer video games over t.v. however changing what one prefers is hard to do and if forced can be detrimental to the mind (that's not to say it doesn't happen, but merely that it is better to change naturally and not forced by other people) this is the same with homosexuality and heterosexuality. of course this means they are the same when it comes to terms of preference, which kinda doesn't make sense to choose to be gay unless it's a subconscious or unconscious decision in which case because some people think choice has to be conscious or assume it is it is better to say it's not a choice. however assuming it's a conscious choice, why would anyone choose to be gay (type of person that can be heavily criticized by society, and being hated by most of your peers), if they wanted to do that they could have become a lawyer (better salery than average gay to)

also weirdly enough this also implies everyone is born innately libido less and right when it starts they would chooses, weirdly enough libido or sex drive is contributed to testosterone witch starts effecting humans prenatal (before birth) so essentially if it is a choice then it would have had to been made while in the womb of the mother

hopefully that was informative enough for you :)
have a nice day mister mowgaycraft

it isn't a preference, for that precise reason.
It is an orientation because it is nurtured.
People thought it was nature or choice, but it is not choice and if it was nature, then that would mean it is a gene, well that gene would die out, would it not?
What it means by nurture is that it is manipulated by environment, your "love mind" is normally set in place by age 4, it depends on your interactions with people, normally whatever you are raised to be, whether consciously or not, and it is not just the parents. Neighbours, TV, everything plays a role, of course things later in life can change such preferences as with anything.

It's something you're born with. Like skin color, eye color, etc. And it's called preference because you prefer your natural sexuality over the other gender. This is also the basis for fetishes, though those are often formed from experiences and not from birth.

Tell me, if you're straight, that means your preference is to the opposite gender right? So you must've made a choice at one point saying "I'm straight". Because you realize that's what your body was naturally attracted to. This works the same for gays.
#136 to #123 - fefe (01/27/2013) [-]
Its not a choice. They were never straight, they were always gay- just like you were always definitively straight. The first boner you got was for a girl, the first boner he got was for a guy. He cant help it.
Of course there are some people who decide to switch, but I dont know for sure if that is a choice. They may be bisexual, sexually confused, in the closet, etc.
The truth is you do not know how it is, unless you are them. So shut the **** up.

Funny thing is...this guy is right. That's when I decided, about the start of my school sex education. No need to get so hostile, I was just asking a question though I did expect a myriad of reds for having an opinion.
User avatar #156 to #151 - bigbeaufort ONLINE (01/27/2013) [-]
No hostility here...Just saying, I've had the option to choose if I wanted to be homosexual or not. I just don't find peni ( I think that'd be the way to make it plural) attractive.

I actually endorse equality for all people, no matter their: religion, gender, race, preference.

There once was a gay parade in Uganda.
They were so gay that all of them died. The end.
