CALORIES. why measure in calories? It has no practical purpose!

they are only there to make things seem less unhealthy!

Calory:
the amount of energy spent to increase the temperature of 1 liter of water by 1 kelvin.
There 's science in it, remember.

right. my comment must have been a little unclear.

joules, have you heard of them? they are the official measurement of energy. that's Ee, Ek, Echem Eetc. that is what I meant.

and warming WATER is not very scientific.

I was actually just ranting about those stupid food companies that keep putting the calories on food packages, while kJ are the SI unit.

your post was fine, my reaction wasn't (I didn't explain my statement enough, and it was inappropriate. I am sorry for that.)

Because excess calories are energy. Fat is stored energy. To many calories means added stored energy. Ie, if you eat more calories in a day than you burn, you gain weight.

What the Hell.

15 french fries? Somewhere in between 100 and 200 if not lower. McDonalds chips are even less since they are so thin, I'm guessing lower than 100.

15 apples? We're talking almost 1500 calories, since there are about 100 in an apple because of all that fruit sugar.

Seriously, no doubt apples are healthier than chips (saturated fat in chips and other nasties, especially in McD chips) but lying about dem facts is just stupid. This post rustled me.

actually the apple costs way more calories to digest, so if you count only the used calories of an apple it is very low.

It does take more calories to digest, but not so much that it's less healthy to go for the apples. As anonymous below me says, the calorie gain from an average apple is around 40. Carrots and several other vegetables such as celery however, makes your body burn more calories by eating them than you get from eating them, which is quite interesting.

One apple has an average of about 40 kcal per 100g. A normal apple is from 100g to 200g heavy, so the average is about 60 kcal. 15x60 is 900 kcal.Though, I bet that 15 french fries are like 200 kcal, like you said.

Not trying to be negative, just clearing it a bit up 'cause you exaggerated a little.
