I'm a Buddhist and I eat meat.

...Hey, its better then the nutritional issues that come from an all veggie diet. We teach the reduction of suffering, and that includes anemia and shit. The animals are killed humanely, so what's the hurt?

Only teddybuddhists. I mean, I've heard some Buddhists talk about how "eating meat gives negative karma but not as much as killing the animal yourself because of indirect and blarhblarhblarh". Point of Buddhism is that you must live to do good things and stop holding unto desire. Eating meat is both. Also the Buddha specifically told his apprentices to not eat meat (although not veganism, and he also told them to eat whatever was offered to them, but the last two are up for interpretation as far as I'm concerned).

It's funny how no vegans has said anything about this post here but everyone who eats meat has had something to say about how vegans is this and that and how they always complain about meat posts. But apparently they don't.
Don't understand why people hate so much on vegans, people here usually seem open minded, except for vegans.

I don't see a lot of hate towards vegans here, mostly just anticipation of a vegan attack. In my experience, a vegan will use name calling such as murderer or barbarian and such when confronted with someone who eats meat. Especially on the internet. I've got nothing against vegans anymore than I do anyone else, except for arrogant and intolerant fuckwits, and there are those kinds of people in every group. Every barrel has a few bad apples.
#87 to #48 - lasmamoe (01/25/2013) [-]
Vegans like any other group of people in society have good people and bad people.

I dont call myself anything, but i dont eat meat, and i definitely try my best to stay away from dairy products, so i guess i could call myself a vegan, however this labeling of lifestyles is not something i find important.

I just think it's important not to lecture people, but at least share your own knowledge on a certain subject (such as nutrition).

I rarely encounter vegans who call meat eaters "murderers" or anything like that (maybe im lucky). I have only met vegans who have nothing but good intentions towards people who are on a health hazardous diet i.e trying to steer people in a better direction.

The reason that people find vegans so "agressive" is not nescessarilly because because vegans are specifically agressive, but more because people are so scared of facing their own bad habits.
User avatar #139 to #87 - Kellanved (01/25/2013) [-]
Bad habits? How presumptuous.
User avatar #140 to #139 - lasmamoe (01/25/2013) [-]
What do you mean?

Bad habits are choices people take even though they know that they shouldn't.
Eating a big mac every day even though you know perfectly well that it's bad for you, is something i would consider a bad habit.

Smoking cigarettes is a bad habit.
Drinking is a bad habit.

Why are people so afraid to admit that they sometimes make poor decisions?

I have bad habits myself, i drive without my seat belt even though i know it's ridiculously stupid of me to do. If someone tells me that i should probably quit that bad habit of mine, i would appreciate their concern, instead of telling them to mind their own business.

I hope this makes any sense.
User avatar #142 to #140 - Kellanved (01/26/2013) [-]
Thank you for perfectly illustrating my point when it comes to vegans on their high horse. Eating meat is not a bad habit. And you know perfectly well that was what you were originally referring to. I've made my point, to be honest I really don't care if it sticks. Internet fights aren't my thing. Good day. *Tips hat.*
User avatar #143 to #142 - lasmamoe (01/26/2013) [-]
If your intentions was to call me an arrogant better knowing son of a bitch no matter what i said, and consider yourself victorious, then i agree this argument is pretty silly.

My arguing has not been any different from yours, and still you stubbornly claim that i am this and that.

Meat is not bad i can maybe agree on that. But eating a lot of meat like we do in the western world is incredibly bad for our health.

Also, every human on the planet is Lactose Intolerant.
#124 to #87 - N. Korean citizen (01/25/2013) [-]
Yeah, that's like saying the reason some people find Christians to be annoying assholes is because they're afraid of facing their own faith.

No, they hate vegans because of the loud minority that yell at everyone and shove their logic in your face. Same with the Christians and their stupid extremists. Don't try to make it anything else.
User avatar #134 to #124 - lasmamoe (01/25/2013) [-]
No, because while religion is something that is different for each individual, nutrition is something that affects us all in the same way.

It doesn't matter if a person weighing 200lbs "believes" that eating 10 big macs a day is good for his health. Fat is fat, and fat makes you fat.

If i tell this person that the reason for his obesity is most likely his massive intake of unhealthy food, am i shoving my believes down his throat then?

No, I am simply sharing my knowledge on the matter.

The actor Woody Harrelson who is a vegan, told the story of how he used to have acne well into his twenties. It was only when a stranger on the bus told him that his acne was probably due to his lactose intolerance.
As soon as he gave up all dairy products, his acne disappeared.

Do you think this stranger on the bus should have just minded her own business, and let him struggle with a lactose intolerance he didn't even know he had?

To be quite honest, it's because it's abnormal for someone to not eat meat. I mean look at your teeth: being an omnivore is encoded in your anatomical structure, therefor is important. And when we see someone do different, we unconsciously believe them to not be doing something correctly, i.e. only eat plants.

It's practically the same concept with furries, bronys, katawa's, beliebers, ect. We think of them differently, and since some of them are extremists who try to spread it through anger (and that one bad apple spoils the bunch) we think of them as a nuisance and try to argue back at them. And since the vegans are caring and respecting (most are anyway), they try to avoid arguements that will get them in deeper crap.

And I just realized that this is the most I have typed in a single comment, so have a girl with an amazingly adorable smile.

It's not abnormal to not eat meat. We clearly have flat teeth, except from the two in our upper mouth which are made to chew hard fruits. We are not omnivores; we would get sick from a raw-meat diet. You can feed any herbivore cooked meat, just like humans.

Same as bronies etc? Far. Fucking. From. Your examples are followers of franchises. I am part of several franchises but why the Hell would I care if other people liked the same stuff as me? The difference is that vegans (like human rights advocates telling people not to drink Coca Cola etc) want to make a difference, by trying to convert people. Before you compare it to religions, it's not the same, because we are not trying to help /you/ (i.e. if you sin YOU will go to Hell). Obviously, if I belong to a religion, I will try to convert you probably once, but afterwards I will be like "Your bad, I tried" but with veganism and human rights etc. YOUR actions cause the suffering of OTHER beings, which is wrong.

Before you get mad, you post your opinion, I post mine. I am ready for red thumbs for not agreeing with the majority of Funnyjunk.

I'm not talking about a franchaise or anything. The majority of humans eat meat. We are hunter-gatherers by default.

And another thing: We do not like change in anything. We fear change to such a degree, that we think those who try to change it as ridiculous. And we have been eating both meat and plants for so long, it has become a dogma in modern society to eat both.

Anyway, Im tired, and I got class in the morning, so I wish you a lovely sleep.

OPINION TIME.

There's nothing wrong with a little vegetarianism.
Now, personally, I do quite enjoy meat, but I have a vegetarian girlfriend, and once in a while, I try to eat something without meat. It's not a bad thing, study has shown that we eat too much meat, and cutting down a little won't hurt.

Then again, vegans are WRONG. They are abominations. Veganism should be banned, it is a health hazard to all its practitioners.
User avatar #92 to #30 - lasmamoe (01/25/2013) [-]
Wow, how did you go from reasonable and tolerating, to Vegans are wrong, and veganism is health hazardous? :)

Veganism is a perfectly healthy diet, if you do it right.

If you get enough calories from carbohydrates (fruits, rice, potatoes etc) and you eat a salat at least every other day, you will have a perfectly fine intake of protein, calcium and all vitamins.

I have eaten nothing but fruits, vegetables and potatoes for the last month or so, and every day my protein intake is 125% of what i need (calcium is about 100%).

Im perfectly fine, and my energy level definitely as good as it should be. :)
User avatar #148 to #92 - ewowo (01/26/2013) [-]
The problem is that a lot of people DON'T do it right. I'm in college and I know a lot of 'Vegans', who just basically cut protein from their diet alltogether..

It may be a bit harsh to say it should be banned, but it's a choice that may impact your health greatly and I think that every vegan should at least regularly consult a doctor about their diet.
User avatar #89 to #30 - meganinja (01/25/2013) [-]
that's taking it a bit far. I feel that people should have the right to do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't negatively effect other people. I may not like vegans, I may think that they're annoying, but they have every right to do what they want to do.
User avatar #147 to #89 - ewowo (01/26/2013) [-]
Thumbed you back up. You have a point, but still, veganism is something that borders on anorexia or bulimia, it's an eating disorder, but one that people get to be smug about? That's just wrong.

User avatar #145 to #61 - ewowo (01/26/2013) [-]
I talk down on them because they actively destroy their own body.
#149 to #145 - lieutenantshitface (01/26/2013) [-]
First of all I can assure that the people who eat meat and the health problems that are connected with it outnumber the health problems of a vegan lifestyle many times.

Besides it's perfectly possible to have a good vegan diet, including all the essential macro- (fats, carbs, protein) and micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals)

And second, isn't it their own choice to do so even if it were hypthetically true what you are saying?

You are clearly uneducated on the subject and you're being a dick for no good reason.
You might want to focus more on yourself instead of judging others.
User avatar #151 to #149 - ewowo (01/26/2013) [-]
And, I want to add I don't see the point of veganism.
I get vegetarians, but I seriously, seriously do NOT see the point of veganism.
#152 to #151 - lieutenantshitface (01/27/2013) [-]
I do not see the point of being condescending to people who do others no harm whatsoever,
in fact most vegans choose this lifestyle because they don't want to harm others.

What is so difficult to understand about people not wanting others to suffer?
I'm not a vegan myself but I think it's noble cause and they deserve my respect.

I wonder what you were trying to accomplish with your original post, you're only spreading hate and ignorance.
User avatar #153 to #152 - ewowo (01/27/2013) [-]
I'm spreading my THOROUGH dislike of uninformed veganism because it CAN and HAS caused serious illnesses among vegans. not saying we should exterminate the vegans, I'm sayign they need counselling regarding their diet so they don't end up with any major deficiencies.

And I'm also saying I'd like someone to explain me the point of veganism as opposed to vegetarianism.
#155 to #153 - lieutenantshitface (01/27/2013) [-]
>"And I'm also saying I'd like someone to explain me the point of veganism as opposed to vegetarianism."

I guess you have no idea of how the bio-industry works and the methods being used to make cows produce more milk and to make chickens produce more eggs.
The limited space they live in, the hormones in their food, beaks being cut off etc.
These are just a few examples, I'm not an expert on the subject, I'm sure there are tons of other reasons too.

Animals suffer for animal by-product too.
User avatar #150 to #149 - ewowo (01/26/2013) [-]
Your first point isn't really relevant in this thread, so I'm gonna disregard it. It makes no sense if you've read my original point, I'm against excessive meat consuption, I know it's unhealthy.

Your second point is absolutely true, it is possible.
Also a lot of 'vegans' just don't care, or aren't well enough informed. As you may read above I retract my statement that it should be banned, I'm just REALLY upset because one of my close friends got hospitalised for vegan-ish reasons. I still believe that uninformed or careless veganism can lead to serious health problems akin to anorexia or bulimia (but you get to be smug and self-righteous about it, too) and that every vegan should be well informed of his/her decision and should regularly consult with a doctor about their diet and physicaly health.

Thirdly, yeah I know it's your own choice. Doesn't make it right. Still you don't actively harm other people, so you're right there.

Last point... Seriously? That's just bloody rude. Ad hominem? I'm concerned about the PHYSICAL WELL-BEING of my fellow humans. If you want to be taken seriously as a vegan/bisexual/tumblr-user, stop treating fucking EVERYONE like they're Hitler.
#154 to #150 - lieutenantshitface (01/27/2013) [-]
You want them to stop treating everyone like they're Hitler yet you're doing exactly the same.
You're generalizing all vegans and call them abominations, you're insulting them and spread lies. Do you really expect me to believe you are honestly concerned with their well-being? I find that hard to believe.
Do you really think people will take you serious? You are behaving like one of those Westboro Baptist Church protesters.

If you were honestly care about other people's well-being, which I don't think you really do, I migh suggest you to not use insults and lies. Then maybe people will listen, if you actually have a good point.

It was wrong of me. But you can't let that go.

I know a lot of vegans manage well. I also know a lot of them don't.

Most people (meat eaters or not) lack musclemass.

The difference is that people with a higher body fat percentage tend to look more "buff" even though their muscles are sometimes almost non-existing.

When you change to a low fat diet and you burn of all of the excessive fat, you will look small until you begin to build muscle mass.

The picture to the right is an example of a vegan bodybuilder. He has a very low body fat percentage, but his muscles are "real muscles" if you know what that means :)

I dont know if you care or not, but if you do, i suggest you check out a site called "veganbodybuilding" to see for yourself that being a vegan does not equal a lack of muscles.
