just started watching FMA. awesome story so far. cant wait to get further in :D
On a serious note, what is the actual purpose of that thing on his chest, Obviously not eat out of it, but for like actual armor purposes, what the hell.

Often when an opponent tries to kill someone in armor they look for the easiest openings.

anyways, underneath the helmet at the neck is one of the easiest places to off someone because armors cant really protect the neck, or they would limit mobility, like if your neck were stuck in a metal brace you wouldn't be very agile
so the chest piece would stop a fatal lunge at the neck, but this model isn't very effective, because anyone taller could stab downwards.
In the series though, Al is pretty damn tall, so this probably defends from shorter opponents.
