No one knows anything about the fourth dimension except mathematicians, and really the only ay to describe it would be with an equation.

I used to do this with my dog when she was younger. I'd steal her blanket from her cage and throw it over myself, then she'd come in from behind outside and try to find me under it.

I miss my dog. ; w ;

Time is the fourth dimension. So yes.
User avatar #243 to #236 - wiredgal (01/22/2013) [-]
We have three dimensions of space and one of time.
They cannot be put in any discernible order.
"THE fourth dimension" is a ridiculous thing to say.

Also, the idea of "a dog" doesn't have anything to do with time, as such it doesn't exist in four dimensions.
"the running dog"
Adding the participle gives the dog some vague presence in the temporal dimension.

And I believe the convention is that, when talking about shapes, time is not mentioned.
As such 4D would mean four dimensions of space, not three space and one time.
User avatar #251 to #243 - bluerangermartin (01/22/2013) [-]
A 4D alarm refers to the displacement along the X, Y and Z axis. Also the dog making a perturbation which can propagate is only allowed by time. Therefore 3D is only the absence of displacement in space. 4D makes sense. You are saying that we live 'outside of time' and that just isn't true.
User avatar #255 to #251 - wiredgal (01/22/2013) [-]
No, I'm saying theoretical shapes do, and we can be defined as theoretical shapes, as can dogs.

My main point was though that #D as a format of saying how many dimensions an object or a plane has, by convention doesn't include dimensions of time, only those of space.
If you Google "4D shapes", you won't see pictures of cubes moving across a space, you'll see a hypercube doing it's thing. Possibly even moving, which by your logic would make it 5D, no?

I see this huge debate this thread over the definitions of 4 dimensions and up, and my explanation is that the fourth D is for Dog. A 3D Dog alarm clock. Shows how complex my mind is.

4D means it includes touch/smell/taste.

Not scientifically, but in terms of like movies and **** .

Scientifically, the Fourth Dimension is time.
We live in the 3rd; we can see all sides and angles of things we look at.
In the 4th, we could see all sides and angles of something we look at as well as its entire existence. When you look at a person, regardless of what age they are, you would see them at literally every moment of their existence; everything from infant to corpse.

Yay science

round off for people who can't be assed to watch
4th dimention - Time, If we could see ourselves in the 4th dimension it would be like a tape worm with one end being your embryo self and the other being your old self
5th dimension - possibility, what could happen in the future
6th dimension - What could have happened had something else happened
7th dimension- infinity x Infinity, what could have and could turn out to be linked to other things that could have happened had different original starting points with resulting branching time lines.
8th dimension - get's confusing, if you branch off from that to another infinity, that is the 8th dimension
9th dimension - by this point watch the video because it's complicated.
10th dimension - refer to 9th
#62 to #55 - Womens Study Major (01/22/2013) [-]
No, we are currently in the fourth dimension, at least double check something you say before posting it. Each dimension is able to view the lower dimension completely, meaning being in the fourth we see everything in the third. Being in the fifth would mean seeing everything possible that could ever happened in time.
#60 to #55 - Womens Study Major (01/22/2013) [-]
I learned that in Slaughterhouse five
User avatar #57 to #55 - traelos ONLINE (01/22/2013) [-]
Scientifically, the 4th dimension is undefined.

Some like to think it's time, but it's all abstract and theoretical anyway.

But yes, I ******* know that. Everybody knows that. The fact that everybody knows that is why osskari was confused the first place.
