*Has met several comic book aliens inspired by the gods. The comic book Thor isn't the same as the god Thor. They only drew inspiration for a comic book hero.

But in the comics, isn't Thor a god?
User avatar #117 to #115 - chiktikkavaspaus (01/21/2013) [-]
No. He's a super hero based on the god.

Christians are wonderful, even when an opposing religion is definitively confirmed without a shred of doubt... they still refuse to lose their faith... I mean really, Thor conjures a lightning storm and you're still all, have you checked out this Jesus guy, he totally walks on water.

Well, you know, according to the Bible, Jesus kinda is God. God is Jesus. It's this whole trinity thing, you know, with God, Jesus and the holy ghost, wich are all aspects of God. So according to the bible Jesus is God, and God is Jesus, and the holy ghost are also both, and that too is mutual from both Jesus and God, which are the same guy....
it's not confusing at all

#67 to #63 - arandomanon (01/21/2013) [-]
I'm not a religious fag but as far as I know Jesus is the son of god, a (let's say it in this way) "product" of God, the holy spirit and Mary. Since Jesus is part mortal, he isn't a full god so I guess that doesn't make him entering in the "god" class.
#73 to #67 - mrclass (01/21/2013) [-]
christfag here. Basically the whole idea of the holy trinity is that everything in it is the same god. Don't think of it as God- Jesus- Holy ghost as if they were different things, think of it as father- son- spirit. The idea is that they are all different parts of the giant thing we call God. not only that but the idea that jesus is part god and part human was actually a church heresy known as Arianism. Because arius was a well known scholar it was a major struggle for the church to remain unified because so many supporters were arian.

This is actually interesting (no sarcasm). Thanks for the information.

exactly why christians tried to destroy all 'pagan' religions

they never wanted people praying to real gods with names that actually answered prayers, they just wanted the slave religion of giving people false hope with no rewards

WRONG.

Vikings believed in the Asgards as their Gods and did so for quite some time. It was only when Christians showed and claimed how powerful their God was that things changed. So the Vikings left the Asgards because joined the more powerful God known as just God.

They where also forced into joining the religion or die by their hands in the name of God.
This is what Christians did in the black ages.
User avatar #28 to #6 - finni (01/21/2013) [-]
Very historical correct. Glad you stated facts and not interfere your personal opinions on the matter. It was mostly the Christian kings or leaders that wanted the Christinazation to happen harshly and was mainly lead by anger that others wouldn't think as them. As is the example of the Norwegian king who wanted Iceland to be converted so badly.
User avatar #23 to #6 - icelandicviking ONLINE (01/21/2013) [-]
The vikings were around 600-1200. europe changed to christianity around 1600-1900. yeeaah..
User avatar #27 to #23 - finni (01/21/2013) [-]
No? Christianity was a part of Europe ever since the Roman age and in the Middle Ages, over half the populations of Europe were Christian. By 1600 there wasn't a pagan country left. Iceland was a hard country to convert. They were stubborn and many missionaries failed to convert them, often because of inexperience and because they didn't understand how to convert the Icelandic people so the King of Norway started to boycott Icelandic goods.

Lithuania was also quite hard to convert and it had to be launched a Crusade towards them, known as the Teutonic Knights. And I say this all as a personal believing Christian
User avatar #29 to #27 - icelandicviking ONLINE (01/21/2013) [-]
christianity may have been apart of europe but that has nothing to do with the vikings believing in god. Even today icelandics religion is half Asgard half christian. And it what the **** are you talking about the Norwegian king boycotting the icelandic gods.. for 1. it was the danish king 2. vikings weren't even ******* around when the danish king took over!

And to be clear. I know better, Because i live in the ******* spot you ******* !
User avatar #31 to #29 - finni (01/21/2013) [-]
I don't know if saying that the Vikings believing in God is the correct term. The Norse people were converted and sure, there were Viking warriors who were Christian, but they had little understanding of their religion. Archaeologies tend to view 1050, 1066 or 1150 to be the end of the Viking Age.

I'd like to see a source for you that claims that half the population of Iceland follow the old Asgard belief.

Olaf Tryggvason was the king of Norway in the end of the 10th century and he decided to cancel all trade with Iceland (boycott) if they didn't become Christian. This was to make pressure on them so that they would be more tempted to convert Christianity
User avatar #32 to #31 - icelandicviking ONLINE (01/21/2013) [-]
Everyone in iceland learns what i just told you in school. It is our history. We know it, not wikipedia.
User avatar #34 to #32 - finni (01/21/2013) [-]
Alright then. Sure you might not be mixing it up? I am pretty sure that Denmark had nothing to do with Iceland, or not anything very special when it comes to religion, before the 16th century. After all, Olaf Tryggvason was a very strict king when it came to conversion and the first Christian king of Norway.
If you claim that Wikipedia is wrong, you should perhaps report that or something.

And still, I would like to see if half the population of Iceland still believes in the Asgard gods.
User avatar #36 to #34 - icelandicviking ONLINE (01/21/2013) [-]
i never said that half of iceland believed in asgard. i said it was mixed with christianity. And who are you telling me that the history of my people is wrong. The danish king took controll over iceland and forced them to turn to christianity so it would be easier for him.
User avatar #40 to #36 - finni (01/21/2013) [-]
Hmmm. Sorry for misunderstanding what you said. But it seemed like that when you said "Even today icelandics religion is half Asgard half christian." It seemed like you said that half of the Icelandic population is Christian and the other half is Pagan.

When it comes to the boycotting, I am Scandinavian as well and I would know my history too and Olaf Tryggvason did try to force convert Iceland. Denmark didn't get to rule over Iceland before the Kalmar Union, before that Iceland was independent until the middle of the 13th century when the Norwegian Empire took over it. Norway wasn't a really big empire, but it controlled the Faroes, Greenland parts of Scotland and Iceland and they were in a Golden age until the black death.

Whatever Denmark did afterwards I don't know, but Olaf Tryggvason did try to boycott and murder all Icelanders in a city, but was talked out of it.
