Maybe your friends were just like one of those girls who drinks half a pint and acts like they're completely smashed just to seem "cool".

I'm immune to caffeine as well...
Well, not really immune, I mashed up a couple of concentrated caffeine pills (6 or 7 of them) and dissolved them in some cola and downed it, followed by a couple of caffeine gums.

I have never before or after had so sweaty palms, I raced back and forth in a hall for 30 minutes, telling weird tales of my project I was working on (hence the need to stay awake) to everyone who passed me. When I finally sat down to work, I couldn't get my feet to sit still.

I don't drink coffe to this day as it brings back some of the palm-sweat and a bit of dizzyness, but doesn't help me stay awake.

Pic related, it's me after ingesting too ******* much caffeine!

Neuro-engineer (major) here:

Why would you even try...? Sleep deprivation can really **** you up in the short and the long term. There is a reason you start going insane and shutting down, because you are (essentially) dying. NREM sleep is some of the most important times of the day for your body. You need NREM to release a lot of hormones and allow the body to do things like grow, repair, and clean itself. It's also the only time where your brain can really repair itself from damage it's taken (smashing against the inner skull from moving/stopping to fast). Imagine a building that has no maintenance or janitorial duties done for 5 or 6 years - that's what would happen to your body. And REM is required for your memories to function properly. If you don't have REM, you can't organize and store your memories or (in computer terms) defragment your harddrive. Tests have been done that one night of sleep deprivation can have lasting effects for at least (I think it was) 90 days. (If you want the source, go find it yourself.) Your brain doesn't hallucinate because it's fun, it's hallucinating because it's desperately screaming at you to fall asleep.
Oh, and your brain falls into periods of microsleep. You can hardly call it awake unless you are actively doing something that uses all cognitive functions. Microsleep is when certain parts of your brain fall asleep for a short time so you won't fall apart as fast. Anything related to that part of the brain blacks out until it wakes up again.

tl;dr Sleep deprivation is bad..mmkay?

What do you think if you go without sleep for 1 week?
#13 to #7 - anonymous (01/21/2013) [-]
******** , not even an easy accomplishment to stay awake on drugs for more than 3 or 4 days without seriously freaking the **** out. you're a liar and a faggot because 6 days is borderline impossible for anyone under any circumstance. **** off.

My boyfriend use to be on meth when we first got together and he would stay up a week or so, tripping ******* balls the whole time.

I don't know where you get those facts from, or if was just made up on the spot. But the longest average amount of time a person can stay awake is 264 hours (11 days).

1: you're an anon, so your opinion is forever invalid.
2: you are theoretically right, but 3 days are simple and from there deterioration of brain function start. However, instead of sleeping a full night, just take a powernap (it's sleep, I know, but hardly more than 1-2 hours) and you can do this for a week at least. only bad thing is that you will get stressed easier and you may have a headache.
#15 to #13 - realrockrooster (01/21/2013) [-]
Nah people have stayed awake way longer, there was studies done. A schoolboy (Randy Gardner) stayed awake for 11 days. And that's not even the record!

I call ******** . Even if you did 'stay up' that long, you would have at least had periods of microsleep.
User avatar #12 to #9 - thegamerslife (01/21/2013) [-]
he had to, no human brain lets the body do this, it has a natural shut down switch type effect when you stay awake and active for multiple days straight. you literally just pass out and/or collapse cause your brain is like " **** this im done".
