they were attracted to the wrong poles.

Who says they were attracted? If they were demagnetized they could just be placed next to each other. They're essentially just metal at that point.

well being that i put them together and saw them pull toward each other north to north..

Where did you find them? Chances are wherever you got them, they were already demagnetized then. Or they could just have their N and S labels wrong.

they were just standard magnets from a package that our electronics teacher bought. they were meant for educational use.

that is why. Educational use magnets are terrible. They're usually low quality. My teacher bought a 10 pack and none of them were properly magnetized. They lost their pull within two days.

they were bought for educational use, not designed for it. there was a set of magnets out as well that were from a couple years ago but from the same model, and still had good tug.

they were fresh out of a bag at the beginning of class, other students used them though. there was plenty of other stuff to mess with so i doubt anyone bothered to bring or use and of the tools required to reverse polarity.
