the universe may not be infinite, we just can't yet prove weather it is or isnt. however we can prove that its not infinitely populated; if there were an infinite number of stars in the sky, we would be perpetually bathed by infinitely bright light as there would be no "gaps" between stars when looking out to infinity.

so, if it can still expand, it's not infinite.

How do we know that its infinite? I've never hear either argument argued to a successful end, so if someone could please make an explanation, it would be much appreciated.

Infinite would mean that it always keeps growing. If it were a fixed size it could not be defined as infinite

So I was listening to a podcast the other day with a physicist talking about the universe. I was driving and not paying that much attention, but I think she said the universe is infinite in the same way a ball is infinite. Where if you walked around it you'd never make it to the end. Does that ring any bells to anyone? Because the comments all seem to suggest that it's only infinite because it keeps expanding... Maybe I wasn't listening...
