Op is an athiest retard. kill yourself
User avatar #61 to #59 - enkmaster (01/18/2013) [-]
That was actually terrible. You need practice young padawan.
#68 to #61 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
signing into a different account huh? i know it's you OP, just shut the fuck up. let people believe what they want to believe, u complain about people forcing religion on other people but you're forcing atheism on them so you're a fucking hipocrite
#122 to #68 - SenatorSnowe (01/19/2013) [-]
That's not OP; I am. I don't use more than one account. I'm perfectly comfortable confronting you without hiding behind a different one. You're clearly either a idiot or a troll ( I really don't care which you are).
Hilarious you claim posting a picture on a humorous website is forcing atheism on to other people. The idea from the content above is not inherently atheist, so you can just shut your mouth, or better yet, keep talking nonsense, perpetuating the stereotype of the religious being fucktards.
Good day.
User avatar #73 to #68 - enkmaster (01/18/2013) [-]
Different account? Check my account comment history and that of OPs. We're on at the same times, commenting at the same times. Therefor, Im one person and not OP. Oh, and the expansion of the universe is a theory accepted by the church. This has nothing to do with religion.
#123 to #73 - SenatorSnowe (01/19/2013) [-]
I'm (the real, one, and only) OP, and I approve this comment.
Thank you for taking care of this fucktard during my absence.

"and the expansion of the universe is a theory accepted by the church."

not my church, you asshole
User avatar #81 to #78 - krobeles (01/18/2013) [-]
Obvious troll is obvious. Return to your bridge, and leave this comment section in peace, fiend!
#82 to #81 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
yeah everyone who disagrees with your beliefs is a troll. nice logic asshole
User avatar #84 to #82 - krobeles (01/18/2013) [-]
No. Your just a troll, because you dont make sense, to the point where i give the human race enough credit, that i find it impossible, that such a stupid person can actually exist without being in a stupidity-induced coma.
#86 to #84 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]

and you're calling me a troll?

Read what he said, idiot.

you massive fucking retard

Ah. Grammar. The last refuge of the person who can think of nothing better to say.
My work here is done. Your bridge beckons you.
#110 to #95 - anonymous (01/19/2013) [-]
no, calling someone a troll is the last refuge of a person who has run out of arguments.
#69 to #68 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
What the fuck are you talking about?
User avatar #55 - domono (01/18/2013) [-]
Well if it wasn't still expanding, it wouldn't be infinite

so, if it can still expand, it's not infinite.
User avatar #60 to #48 - popadoo (01/18/2013) [-]
Think of a piece of lined graph paper, that is infinitely large.
Now imagine the paper is being stretched so the lines get further apart. It is still infinitely large, it is just being stretched apparently larger.
This is the universe.
#63 to #60 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
too lazy to sign in again but seriously fuck you that makes no since. go kill yourself stupid asshole trying to use ur stupid theories to disprove God. why don't you try reading the bible instead of making shit up fucking idiot.
User avatar #58 to #48 - asasqw (01/18/2013) [-]
It is a bit of a confusing idea. It is expanding into itself
#56 to #48 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
however, even if you have an infinite number, you can always add 1 (for example), making it ∞ +1 which actually = ∞
#52 to #48 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
yeeeah but its expanding fast enough (at the speed of light) so nothing could ever reach the end of it, therefore it is effectively infinite. At least thats what i think scientists think
User avatar #57 to #52 - ilcecchino (01/18/2013) [-]
Actually the universe isn't expanding. the universe is... what "IS" expanding is that the light from the "edge" of the universe is just now reaching us. if you were to go to the edge of the univers as we know it. and from a planet there. in today's time. Earth would have just expanded into sight. but we all know that were living here and stuff. but to them they would see it as if earth was just born
User avatar #47 - kratosalza (01/18/2013) [-]
Isn't the expansion what makes it infinite?
#46 - doctorque (01/18/2013) [-]
Well.. infinite as to how we cannot fathom the scale of it.

Otherwise it is quite a finite space expanding to a point, thus lowering the amount of matter/unit of volume ratio. It is like a balloon that was given air to later deflate and return to nothingness.

actually, if the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate (which all evidence suggests it is), it may very well be infinite in size.
User avatar #45 - BwainPhreeze (01/18/2013) [-]
I thought it was infinite BECAUSE it is expanding... ?
#42 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
the universe is not infinite
its in a infinite "room" where the finite universe expands in
#41 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
If the universe didn't keep expanding all of the matter in the universe would collect together and form one big pile of shit. Most likely killing any time of life and or planets.
User avatar #38 - pianoasis (01/18/2013) [-]
Not infinite.....
User avatar #37 - derangedberger (01/18/2013) [-]
I've heard that the entire universe is 92 billion light years across, due to the theory that space can travel faster than light.
#34 - hoggu (01/18/2013) [-]
Acctually, the most talked off theory is that the universe is expanding in the light of speed, therefore it will be infinite to us until we are able to travell faster than 299,792,458 m/s.
#50 to #34 - anonymous (01/18/2013) [-]
False, the expansion of space is greater than the sped of light, look it up
#35 to #34 - hoggu (01/18/2013) [-]
ehrm, speed of light *

How do we know that its infinite? I've never hear either argument argued to a successful end, so if someone could please make an explanation, it would be much appreciated.

Can an omnipotent being (God) create a stone so heavy that it cannot lift it?
User avatar #44 to #29 - ScottP (01/18/2013) [-]
Technically...if a being was capable of restructuring the laws of physics to His will, then He would also be able to restructure the laws of reason as well.

Not trying to start anything here. Just food for thought....
User avatar #39 to #29 - pianoasis (01/18/2013) [-]
No. Beings can't create stone.
User avatar #27 - TheSnakeShitter (01/18/2013) [-]
Infinite would mean that it always keeps growing. If it were a fixed size it could not be defined as infinite
#26 - HerpinMaiDerpin (01/18/2013) [-]
Doesn't it need to keep expanding to be infinite?
User avatar #40 to #26 - pianoasis (01/18/2013) [-]
No. It needs to be infinite to be infinite. If it kept growing, that would mean it's not infinite yet.

Imagine this
the big bang that created our universe
Let's imagine there was nothing before the big bang
so how could it have happened
What if like
a huuuuuuuge "big bang" happened on the other side of some parallel universal wall, and the blast broke through to our side and created our universe

I'm not saying this is true/false
but interesting thought

one theory is the big crunch, saying that when the universe ends, it all gathers at one spot, and then explodes into a new big bang.
User avatar #106 to #33 - coolcalx (01/19/2013) [-]
the big crunch is just the event that would occur if the gravitational force overpowered the expansion force.

what you're referring to is a cyclic model of the universe.

by the way, that is incredibly unlikely, as all evidence seems to point towards an accelerating expansion, which means instead of a big crunch, we'll have a big rip (where space-time literally tears)
User avatar #24 - blewws (01/18/2013) [-]
So I was listening to a podcast the other day with a physicist talking about the universe. I was driving and not paying that much attention, but I think she said the universe is infinite in the same way a ball is infinite. Where if you walked around it you'd never make it to the end. Does that ring any bells to anyone? Because the comments all seem to suggest that it's only infinite because it keeps expanding... Maybe I wasn't listening...
User avatar #22 - feeldawrath (01/18/2013) [-]
If it stopped expanding, it wouldn't be infinite. Duuuh.
User avatar #36 to #22 - SebyMeister (01/18/2013) [-]
Well, infinite=limitless right? So how come something without limit can expands its limits? Its a bit mind-blowing
User avatar #109 to #36 - coolcalx (01/19/2013) [-]
infinite doesn't quite mean limitless.
think of it in terms of number set theory- there are multiple levels of infinity, meaning that some infinities are bigger than others

now THAT is definitely mind-blowing.
User avatar #126 to #109 - SebyMeister (01/20/2013) [-]
Forgot about that, some mathematician (Georg Cantor, if I'm not wrong) discovered that there are multiple levels of inifinity..Yea, it is mind-blowing
User avatar #127 to #126 - coolcalx (01/20/2013) [-]
yeah, it's crazy to think that certain sets of numbers are bigger than others, but both sets are infinitely big.

it's just... fucking weird haha
