You may have heard of the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. The recent event brought up discussion of gun control laws in the United States.

I'll stick to my video games - where I don't cause any more harm to my victims than what they do to themselves in anger as put em' down... One after another.

dead crooks can't sue
#107 to #95 - caplocker (01/18/2013) [-]
Living crooks can't sue here in Indiana. I can use deadly force to "prevent the escape of a forcible felon" Meaning if someone robs a bank and I'm outside, I'm within my legal rights to shoot and kill them as they enter their car.

We don't like criminals here.
#112 to #107 - xlxluckyjoexlx (01/18/2013) [-]
Yeah, here in the US, if a robber breaks into your house and threatens to kill you and you shoot him, you get charged with either attempted murder or if you don't use a weapon you get charged with assault lol we suck

That's just your state, it varies across the nation. The guy above you is from Indiana not India.
#128 to #112 - scodran (01/18/2013) [-]
even in the netherlands you can get away with killing a burglar, as long as they can't prove you used more violence then necessary to protect yourself and your property
#114 to #112 - caplocker (01/18/2013) [-]
you know that Indiana... is in the US right?

Castle doctrine or "stand your ground law" states allow you to kill the would be criminal. Duty to retreat states make you run, and if you can't run you're ****** .

User avatar #78 - thegamerslife (01/18/2013) [-]
i'd like to just stop in an say there is currently no license or registration needed to own a firearm, and i will not register my guns even if they do pass it.
User avatar #85 to #78 - ParallelDuck (01/18/2013) [-]
Only for long guns.
User avatar #382 to #85 - thegamerslife (01/19/2013) [-]
only for long guns what? none of my pistols are registered either, they don't need to be and I don't HAVE to have a license to own one or carry one openly. the only license i have is to conceal carry a pistol. so no licenses and no registry.

I still think the Railway rifle from fallout is cooler,

Everyone in the comments seem to think "what's the big deal about banning assault rifles?". Nobody seems to understand that "assault rifles" and "assault weapons" are not the same thing. Assault rifles are actual military weapons that you think you are supporting the ban of. Assault weapons are a made up term to confuse the public into thinking they're banning military machine guns. "Assault weapon" can mean nearly anything with a detachable mag that fires semi-auto (once for every trigger pull). Pistols, shotguns or anything else with these features can be an "assault weapon". They just use this term because it conjures the image of an M-16 if people actually knew what they were their support would plummet.
User avatar #75 to #72 - durkadurka (01/18/2013) [-]

Right. There is nothing different between an AR-15 and another rifle with the same ammo capacity.

Millions own AR-15, yet the number of shooting deaths from ANY rifle is only in the hundreds per year.

I like how the the link you posted classifies the M4A1 and the SCAR-H as assault rifles when they are indeed carbine rifles. The person who made that should first educate himself then try to 'educate' the public
User avatar #94 to #86 - durkadurka (01/18/2013) [-]
Yes, they aren't the same EXACT thing as the assault rifles they're based off of, but they are almost the same thing. You could classify them as assault rifles if you really wanted to.

And in fact that broad generalization is necessary when trying to educate people. If some people don't understand that "assault weapon" is different from "assault rifle" it will only confuse them to start throwing the word carbine at them.

In the purpose of educating the uninformed public about the made-up "assault weapons" term, the link is perfectly fine in including carbines in a broad use of "assault rifle".
