Life in the East has always been tougher, so the people are tougher. Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia of course - we all have been through communism and, despite all the wrong that it has done to societies (damage we might never fully recover from), it has done some good to people's physical condition and what we consider toughness.

I mean, to graduate from Russian middle school, one must pull himself up 12 times. Is it common in the West? I don't think so. Modern word neglected strength as a form of beauty. In exchange, we got genderless hipsters, bulked-up bodybuilders, who forgot how to move their own bodies, and a small group of professional sportsmen and women, who (if they reflect sometimes on it) weep about the others.

Ancient Greek, who build the basics of European culture admired physical ability on par with knowledge and wisdom. The name Plato means "broad shouldered" and the great philosopher himself was a wrestler (I don't know if pankrationist is a word).
Why did we abandoned our bodies for extremes, whatever happened to the Golden Middle?

TL;DR modern world pussificates people

At this point physical strength is indeed something that is being neglected, but for a good reason. We don't need it anymore. We have machines to do the heavy lifting so why would we bother. Yes of course we are all pussies, but we like to focus on intelligence rather than strength and this tends do actually help us. We remember plato not because of his wrestling, but because of his philosophy.

Tell me more about focusing on intelligence... What did we do with all the knowledge? Most of people thinks that if they got a little of physics they know how universe works. Others think that evolution is a proof that Divine doesn't exist. Most of the greatest invention in the history of information is used for jerking off and for cats. Someone said "the sum of intelligence is a constant, only the people keep multiplying."

I don't negate your point, on the contrary - I totally agree that we don't need much physical strength because of the automata that we created to serve our needs. And it's good and natural. But it's like with science - the true science serves only the purpose of knowledge, there is no other point possible, it would therefore ceased to be science. Everything derived from it is optional. The same is with strong and able physique - it's its own purpose and goal. Of course that's only my point of view, I'd be more than happy for a longer discussion :)

I understand your views towards science and except them, however i would like to point out that our only good reason for knowledge is to use it for a purpose. Yes we like to know things, but if it does not propel humanity forward it would be rather useless. As a species we need to do everything possible to survive and being in excellent shape does not do the trick as well anymore. We have entered an age, where our only hope is to develop and learn. We are not going to solve our most pressing problems with bodybuilding. We need to study, we need to learn. I'd rather have our newest generation in school than at the gym because they are our only change of solving problems like global warming and our lack of energy.

Yes, yes of course. But do you see that intelligence is becoming as elite as, well, good shape? Those bits of physics, chemistry and biology that we see here and there on the Internet hardly can mean that everybody starts to be educated and so on. From what I know, this generation of school children is one of the worst to date. Let the scientists do their work. Let the sportsmen amaze us. But I'm talking only about common people - let us develop ourselves wholly, body and mind together. And well, many signs point to somehow sinister thing - we could solve the problem of energy already, but it's not profitable enough for some people. This all Thorium thing that was here some time ago, the electricity, the stupid decisions planned to be made after the Fukushima tragedy... Who knows, maybe it's the morals that should be developed as well as technology/

But in reality eastern Europe Has some of the highest rates of alcoholism and a culture of steroids surrounding powerlifting an weightlifting.

Yes, alcohol is a part of everyday life and it's sad. And about steroids... You know, when your ambitions best you, you start cheating - but these are that extremes that I was talking about. The rivalry has sense only on the same level, when you try to beat not you opponent really, but your own limitations.

But you make it sound like eastern Europe is some magical, toughened, cultured place because communism turned it into a *********. And that the west is a land of hipsters and bodybuilders with no culture or 'toughness'. The west is just as vein as the east, the average easterner is no stronger or tougher than their western counterpart and bodybuilders still know how to move and many are also athletes.

Except for the fact that the "American's" rock is based off, or is the Husafell Stone(418lbs) which is Icelandic. It was kept in a goat pen where the men would carry it around the pen to show strength.
