because the wild life is going to think "hold up i think there is an overpass better go over there and not run through traffic.."
User avatar #54 to #32 - crazyolitis (01/14/2013) [-]
I think there are fences along the majority of the road. Ecopasses are there so animals aren't limited to just one little piece of land.
User avatar #37 to #32 - mercurry (01/14/2013) [-]
ever heard of a fence?
User avatar #34 to #32 - beatmasterz (01/14/2013) [-]

Wildlife is scary.
It should be outlawed by law.
User avatar #140 to #31 - hipickausername (01/14/2013) [-]
What else would it be outlawed by?
User avatar #214 to #140 - lordlolland ONLINE (01/14/2013) [-]
I don't know, I was busy panicking at the thought of wildlife when I wrote that.

It's funny because its true :C
User avatar #21 - blopant (01/14/2013) [-]
something you cant really see in this picture is they also use normal fences along with these things to funnel the wildlife over them. their not perfect but they do work better then nothing.
User avatar #18 - Mahazama (01/14/2013) [-]
Because animals will respect and acknowledge this concept, and not cross other places.
>>Implying.
User avatar #17 - Shorticus ONLINE (01/14/2013) [-]
We have those all over Canada. They aren't used very often, hardly ever really.
User avatar #134 to #17 - schneidend (01/14/2013) [-]
...How would you even know how often they're used? Do you have a camera trained on them 24/7?
User avatar #218 to #134 - Shorticus ONLINE (01/15/2013) [-]
Government workers put motion activated cameras on them to see if any animals use them. Only a handful of pictures have wildlife in them. There's actually a famous one with a bobcat in it.
User avatar #110 to #17 - thatguyuthinkuknow (01/14/2013) [-]
mostly because its over the highways, and the noise keeps the animals away usually, but there's plenty in the national parks in B.C. and Alberta and ive heard that they are used fairly often
User avatar #95 to #17 - kingarturi ONLINE (01/14/2013) [-]
I've only ever seen one. what part of canada do you live in?
User avatar #217 to #95 - Shorticus ONLINE (01/15/2013) [-]
Alberta/BC. They. Are. EVERYWHERE
#23 to #17 - autoxx ONLINE (01/14/2013) [-]
One bear came halfway across one a few years ago, he got scared and ran back.
They have cameras on these things 24/7 and they are just a waste of something like 6 million apiece.
User avatar #219 to #23 - Shorticus ONLINE (01/15/2013) [-]
I know; it's such a waste of money :/

Not sure about in Netherlands but in British Columbia there are fences lining the highways with overpasses to prevent that
User avatar #130 to #15 - bramdk (01/14/2013) [-]
noone knows why.. but somehow it works (i live in the netherlands and drive under this exact bridge atleast once every 2 months to go to the hospital or some **** in the larger town near my village)

Because there are fences along the road.. These are quite common where I live.
#88 to #15 - anonymous (01/14/2013) [-]
There's probably high fences along the highway to guide them to the crossing
#73 to #15 - anonymous (01/14/2013) [-]
fences all along the highways so they are funneled into the overpass
but you raised a valid point
#24 to #15 - runsliketurtle (01/14/2013) [-]
they usually put up fences along the highways to try to funnel wild life towards these bridges
User avatar #16 to #15 - Thebiggeorgy (01/14/2013) [-]
from what I understand from the rest of the comments, it's pretty popular around the world, so I would think there is some science and statistics the prove it does work.

That or....
it's a global conspiracy to waste money.
User avatar #19 to #16 - kyrozor (01/14/2013) [-]
Without a doubt, some animals will have some sense. But a lot of them will still probably battle traffic.
#14 - loszombis (01/14/2013) [-]
Some places in Australia have these underpasses for koalas..
User avatar #22 to #14 - imnotthere (01/14/2013) [-]
