I just bought Dark Souls for the PC and I must say it is a TERRIBLE port. Any suggestions what mods I should get, to help ease this in the controls and up the graphics?
User avatar #354 to #151 - deliciousdee (01/14/2013) [-]
I just turned down the mouse sensitivity and set it to fullscreen and I've been having a wonderful time

you can get a wired xbox controller at walmart for pretty cheap. Honestly without the controller don't even bother playing.
User avatar #157 to #151 - slandersalamander (01/14/2013) [-]
All you need is DSFix and an Xbox 360 controller. Then it'll play wonderfully.
User avatar #161 to #157 - effort (01/14/2013) [-]
hmm, unfortunately I don't have a 360 controller, or any console controller. I'm still wondering if there are any control mods. Also any other mods that may help in optimizing the game, and graphics besides DSFix (already have DSFix)?
User avatar #165 to #161 - slandersalamander (01/14/2013) [-]
Unfortunately, keyboard/mouse is not really a valid control scheme for playing Dark Souls. If you want to truly enjoy the game, you'll need a controller.

If you mess around with the DSFix.ini you extract to Dark Souls' DATA folder, you'll be able to optimize the graphics to your heart's content.
User avatar #168 to #165 - effort (01/14/2013) [-]
Ahh I see, thanks for the suggestions. Won't I need some kind of converter for the controller?
User avatar #170 to #168 - slandersalamander (01/14/2013) [-]
Any wired Xbox 360 controller can just plug and play with any computer running Windows OS.

Thanks, I'm a console noob, only owned the n64 and gamecube... anyways thanks for the help :D
User avatar #179 to #177 - slandersalamander (01/14/2013) [-]
lol, those are exactly the two consoles I've owned. I bought an Xbox controller to use with my PC when Devil May Cry 4 came out.

maybe he had his mettle tested last friday,
then he went back to the village and took it off and washed it,
and polished it til it was shiny,
and was driving his buick downtown awhile later,
when he saw a maiden
and she saw him and got hype
**** yeah
User avatar #139 - Jackimole (01/14/2013) [-]
Maybe they just bought new armor?
#155 to #139 - anonymous (01/14/2013) [-]
New armor = not tested yet.
The armor is new therefore the knight hasn't had time to test it yet.

Also, for the record, you also have to fight Great Grey Wolf Sif, in the locked door in the Darkroot Garden which you need the Crest of Artorias (purchased from Andrei the Blacksmith for 20000 souls) to open. I recommend doing the Artorias of the Abyss DLC before that, as it changes some of the cutscenes occurring during that section of the game.

RageRambo didn't give you the full deal. After getting killed by him the first time, you'll be captured and sent to the prison section. Fight your way through there, and back through the first section of the Archives to get back to the first bonfire you find, just after where the two armored tusks were. After that, you'll need to go back through the Archives again to find the second bonfire, and eventually leave via a hidden staircase, opened with a lever, and find the Crystal Cave, which includes fun stuff like invisible bridges, and mob-level Moonlight Butterflies who hit as hard as the boss version, but only grant 400 souls on death and never land. Eventually, you'll find Seath. He's not terribly difficult, provided you break the glowing crystal. Be careful of his breath, as it will curse you if you're careless. Ideally, you're going to want to be dealing lightning damage to him, as all dragons have 0% lightning resistance, but it's not necessary to kill him; it just facilitates the process.
User avatar #172 to #158 - madzombiie ONLINE (01/14/2013) [-]
does he always kill you first?
User avatar #173 to #172 - slandersalamander (01/14/2013) [-]
Yeah, he's invincible the first time you fight him.
User avatar #174 to #173 - madzombiie ONLINE (01/14/2013) [-]
ok thank you
User avatar #178 to #174 - slandersalamander (01/14/2013) [-]
For the record, you'll lose all the souls you have going into that fight unless you wear a Ring of Sacrifice. Contrary to what RageRambo said, he doesn't curse you the first time you fight him, so you won't need to waste a Rare Ring of Sacrifice. However, I'd recommend bringing at least 4 humanities in the form of items to kindle the bonfire within the prison tower, as you'll be fighting 3 or 4 channelers, and crystal hollows, who hit very hard. Having 20 estus flasks will be a great help to you. You should also be sure to bring as many purging stones as you can for the second fight against Seath. You should be able to avoid being cursed, but it never hurts to have them just in case.

i have 2 purging stones and an extra rare ring but i used one on the fight and do you know if a divine blessing breaks curses?
User avatar #185 to #183 - slandersalamander (01/14/2013) [-]
Divine Blessing does not cure curse, despite its description.

FIRST GET A RING OF SACRIFICE OR BETTER YET A RARE RING OF SACRIFICE. Go to Anor Londo. Instead of taking the elevator go straight. Run past the sentinals and follow the path. Kill the 2 armoured boars and light the bonfire. You'll fight some crystal hollows who can hit quite hard. Fight through there and take the elevator and follow the hall. Equip the ring and go through the fog gate. You can't hurt him at this phase so just let him kill you and you'll respawn at a new bonfire. Get through there and you can fight him. Just watch out for getting cursed.

THank you as well. He breathes curse crystals so be careful. And when you fight him the second time you have to run behind him and break this staff thing that is shown in the cutscene when he flies down. Otherwise he's invincible.
User avatar #142 to #136 - thisotherdude (01/14/2013) [-]
In Anor Londo, walk out of the bonfire you first got to and take a left, avoid or fight the golems and take the side staircase up and keep going, you'll get to the dukes archives and this is where you find Seath.
