It's because they used up all of the colors in the town names. PokeMon Lavender version would have kicked ass!

You are aware that Games like Diamond and Crystal were not colors, right?

Well, it was always meant to be opposites. It was never specifically colors, they just wanted them to be the opposite of the other ((ruby / sapphire, black / white, etc.)) So it was never going to be only colors.
Just thought I'd share.

OH NO THE NAMES ARE DIFFERENT. Meanwhile the whole new combat system looks bad ass, and everything else looks a lot better. Any fan of Pokemon isn't going to sit and bitch about the name.

OR, maybe colors only applied to two generations:The first and fifth. OH NO! THEY DIDN'T FOLLOW A NAMING CONVENTION THAT WAS ONLY USED FOR 2 OUT OF THE 5 GENERATIONS!

Only gen 1 and 5 used colors. Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum are all precious metals/minerals.

I hate that they made the game for the 3ds, because I don't own one and i don't want to, its just another stupid gimmick.

Judging by the trailer, it sounds like they ran out of ideas too.
