i think you would need to have mental checks every so often if you have a assault rifle. but i think they should keep regular rifles hunting rifles and pistols and should make sure a someone is in the right mind when buying a assault rifle and owning it to make sure they don't go some what crazed. also i think they should have yearly check ups for people with weapons. that is my opinion but i don't think they should outright ban all of them. i just think mental health check up for people who have high fire power would help reduce shootings and even with some of there family to and a requirement to keep it in a safe place like a safe and to have the ammo in a lock box.
User avatar #231 to #164 - Zarke (01/04/2013) [-]
Hey, Mr. Politics. Assault rifles have been heavily regulated since the '30s. What you're looking at are semi-automatic rifles that LOOK like assault rifles. They're exactly the same in function as a semi-automatic hunting rifle. The only difference is the furniture. A pistol grip, collapsible stock, etc. doesn't automatically transform a firearm into a school-wrecking death machine.

"High firepower" is entirely subjective. Most hunting rifles fire rounds that are SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than the rounds fired by so-called "assault rifles".

Most guns, such as the ones in the conn school shooting are illegaly obtained. I for one would like to see either more school police, or armed teachers. I'm eighteen and highly disciplined in the use of a firearm. (I come from a military family) But when something like a shooting happens, the shut in, over protective people CRY bloody murder and want weapons banned. My rifle is always locked and kept in a place only I can get too, my dad's redneck freind grabbed it once and I beat him hard to get it back because he was an idiot and wanted to point it at a teenager who he suspected of stealing. What can prevent this, well, put locks on your guns, if you can afford a six hundred and up gun you can affor a lock. My rifle would not have been able to hurt anyone that day because I have it locked. Teach youth gun safety, never point a weapon at anyone no matter the state of the gun, always keep you safety on, never keep it loaded etc etc. Like I said, guns aren't dangerous unless you make them dangerous, before someone goes "What if a child is curious and kills themself with their parents gun! As A child I stumbled upon my grandpa's 357 mag, being a child I was curious, know what made that gun completely inoperable? A trigger lock and an empty chamber. Hell, I was forced to keep a trigger lock on my first BB gun when I was ten. Just take the proper measures and ta-da you have a safe gun.

I don't usually post serious comments but over here in England where guns are illegal, there is a severely smaller amount of gun-related deaths and crimes. How can the American people actually say that to solve gun crime you should give everyone a gun and hope that the majority of people don't run around shooting innocents?

I've never had any issues related to friends stealing guns or having to worry about walking down the road and being shot because those incidents are extremely rare over here. They still happen, but they're very ******* rare.

Or, because hunting is the best way to provide for their families, and you clearly don't know the definition of rural. It is a lot easier to shoot a deer and be fed for a week than to drive up to the butchers, using a lot of gas, and pay 100 bucks for what you could get for the cost of a bullet.

#202 to #171 - anonymous (01/04/2013) [-]
Assault rifles (aka fully automatic rifles) are not exactly easy to get, they are illegal to own in america without a special permit, which is in no way easy to obtain.
User avatar #175 to #171 - TopDawg (01/04/2013) [-]
You can't easily obtain an assault rifle without a **** ton of paperwork. A lot of assault rifles you would see are illegaly bought.
#176 to #175 - lazragoon (01/04/2013) [-]

User avatar #181 to #176 - TopDawg (01/04/2013) [-]
Seemed you implied people were using assault rifles to hunt, I for one have never seen that. So it must have been along the lines of they shouldn't own assault rifles, which we really can't do.
#190 to #181 - lazragoon (01/04/2013) [-]
No good sir, we have reached a misunderstanding. In response to the good fellow cptfox who states an argument about having guns to hunt, I said that said hunters would only need a one shot rifle to hunt and kill deer. I also stated that this is marginally different from owning a large clip assault rifle "to hunt with".
In conclusion I meant the opposite of what you inferenced.

Got a chuckle out of me, I'm just defensive a little right now, as you can see the woman below is very ignorant of guns, and even priding her own country where it is actually easier to obtain automatic weapons than it is here.

User avatar #162 to #147 - TopDawg (01/04/2013) [-]
Majority of murder weapons and gang weapons are obtained via the black market. Control that. Chances are those girls on the picture are taught proper gun safety. Looks at how the little one keeps her finger off the trigger completey and the older ones hold their fingers outside the gun. My gun is used for fun such as hunting and shooting ranges, but I know for a fact I'm not gonna rush down a hallway at a gangster holding a hot shooter, they probably are gonna use it on me and whoever stands in the way. Sure anyone who pulls a gun in a fight is a pussy, but if it comes to it I'll use mine to defend. Take your pride out of it too, **** fist fighting a burgler, if I can butt you and put you on the ground making you stare down a barrel it's simpler and easier than the trouble of me going full cqc on somone who can just grab any near by object and gain the upper hand. I choose the protection over the ones i love over some retarded penis pride.

I hunt with a Bow also, but gangs here are much more violent than you may have experiance being on an island/contenent of your own. When here we have south american cartels, and even canadian gangs which are terribly fearlessly retarded. But houses get robbed here all the time by crips/bloods/MS-13 a lot. They don't hesitate to murder whoever saw them either.

#182 to #178 - teddysbawz (01/04/2013) [-]
I know some people just can't see the obvious facts. The rules are fair as they are, I'm only allowed to own airsoft weapons and even that took a while to get so increasing the number of rules and regulations will do nothing, education is the key.

no **** like back in the day they taught gun safety and responsibility in schools. right, i don't know why anyone wouldn't. it's like hiding that condoms exist from them for there whole lives and wondering why they are teenage parents lol.

I saw a lady freaking out on the news about the fact an armed guard would be posted at her school, and that her child would be scared...the fact is children are blank slates and mimic whatever emotional response they see there peers having to certain situations.

this country is slowly turning its ass to the sky getting ready for a good screw. lol just glad i live in a country ass(but educated) part of the country.

yeah well they never mention that self defense shootings are 3-4x as likely as criminal ones, so really the lines get purposely blurred to make it seem like those are all criminals killing innocent people. look at the facts sir. overall crime in out country has been on a decline since '85 and since UK gun ban overall crime has gone up. criminals of all kinds are scared of civilians with guns, and when you take them away they know they can do more then before without fear of being killed as easily.

I do believe things like rape, robberies, home invasions, etc all need to factor in not just "gun violence"

Firstly, if you choose to refer to me as little boy how can you defend the idea that you think you are higher than others. It is also because of this lack of respect that I will henceforth refer to you as "little girl". Secondly, I did not believe that I was higher than you when I attempted to challenge your opinion on gun control, I was simply using a comical device to state my opinion. Thirdly, given your comments so far I do believe you possess a fairly low level of intelligence and have a weak resolve considering your use of sarcasm and your sudden unwillingness to discuss gun control stating that you are now "bored" by it.
