Deep reverence is 50,000 meters? There is no way.
User avatar #255 to #52 - randomnab (01/02/2013) [-]
It says so in the book.
User avatar #287 to #255 - kyledp (01/02/2013) [-]
it's almost 31 miles long.
That can hold a lot of people.
User avatar #304 to #287 - randomnab (01/02/2013) [-]
Yes it can. Or just one person, like in the book lol
User avatar #310 to #304 - kyledp (01/02/2013) [-]
so only one person was in it?
(i never read the books)
User avatar #312 to #310 - randomnab (01/02/2013) [-]
The books are awesome. The Flood sucks balls since it was written by some dipshit author and it's basically Halo: CE in book format, and the Forerunner saga is well, average, but the other books are awesome.

Anyway yeah, there was just 1 person in 1 of those ships guarding the Prophet's system. He was a friend of the Didact, and he was making sure the system was under quarantine since that was the punishment of the Prophets after they and the humans lost the war with the Forerunners.

User avatar #254 to #43 - randomnab (01/02/2013) [-]
It's in the Forerunner Saga books.

every time i think of the tower of sauron i instantly think of those big towers in every gate to Oblivion (TES 4) with a sigil stone in it
User avatar #2 - hadrian (01/01/2013) [-]
Where's your source on this given figure?
User avatar #244 to #2 - anonymoose (01/02/2013) [-]
Tolkien doesn't mention the size, but there are probably some ways to tell the size through reference points.
User avatar #307 to #244 - hadrian (01/02/2013) [-]
I'm sure there are. Tolkien was a stickler for details when he wanted to be.
User avatar #308 to #307 - anonymoose (01/02/2013) [-]
"The Dark Tower was described as existing on a massive scale so large it was almost surreal, although Tolkien does not provide much detail beyond its size and immense strength. Since it had a "topmost tower" it presumably had multiple towers. It is otherwise described as dark and surrounded in shadow, so that it could not be clearly seen.
"..rising black, blacker and darker than the vast shades amid which it stood, the cruel pinnacles and iron crown of the topmost tower of Barad-dûr..." " - Wikipedia.
User avatar #309 to #308 - hadrian (01/02/2013) [-]
hmm, that would put Mt Doom on an even larger scale. The Atlas of Middle Earth places Barad-dûr as standing lower than the volcano, but still taller than half the height of the volcano.
