The main counter argument, which is perfectly valid, is that it is far easier to kill many more people with specific firearms. E.g. Assault Rifles

1. Rifles are rarely used in violent crimes in the US
2. There is no such thing as an assault rifle, assault is an intention not a category.

An AR15 is not a so called "assault rifle", since it's semi-automatic. An M16A1 is an "assault rifle", since it's semi-automatic and automatic.

It's still a lot easier to kill someone with a gun than a knife, and you can kill more people more quickly with a gun. I suppose you're right, guns don't kill people, people kill people, buy people with guns kill other people effectively.

People seem to not realize gun control doesn't mean no guns it just mean making things like assault rifle hard to get including psychological background checks and having to keep gun keys on your person so no one else can access a gun cabinet. Australia implemented a new system that had five categories for guns based on how deadly they are with the pistols, handguns, rifles being fairly easy to acquire while military grade weapons like assault rifles which are designed to kill humans are near impossible to get. The result? since 1996 there has been no school shootings since.
P.S. alot of automatic assault rifles were illegal to own in the U.S. until 2004 since 1986 when a ban was lifted, people seemed to get along fine before then. Again I'm not saying guns should be illegal but does anyone really need TAR-21 for self defense the thing is meant for intense war fighting not defending yourself from a mountain lion or a couple of nig nogs.

This post has nothing to do with the fact that our troops are in the middle east. The fact that we have a standing military is what protects our freedom. If we didn't have a constant military presence, someone would take us over and take away our freedom.

I know this post has nothing to do with what I'm asking, but I had the doubt and since it has to do with the army it just seemed appropriate.
I'm not talking about the military within the country, that one is obvious, but I've seen it so many times people saying "you better respect our troops in the middle east, they are protecting our freedom" that's what I don't understand since it's bsically the U.S taking away their freedom over there.

All I was saying is that this post was saying that the military as a whole protects our citizens so they can enjoy the freedoms they have left.

Yeah, our military's gotten a bit out of hand....but, hey, we protect our own liberties by robbing other countries of their liberty.

Then when certain countries get mad at us for having liberty, we take away our own liberties so there's nothing for them to hate. Makes perfect sense, right? Ah, America.

Because in some countries you can't trust people. In Canada, there is a place where NO ONE locks their doors that's how much we trust each other, if people weren't so fucked up and didn't go around thieving and shit some places would be more peaceful and therefore you wouldn't need an assault rifle.
