Disney bought Marvel, Sony has always had the movie rights to Spider-Man, and still does.

Marvel/Disney ownes movie rights to the entire Avengers movies/franchise universe. Iron MAn, Cap, Thor, Hulk, Guardians of th galaxy, Ant Man, Runaways etc.

Disney's superhero movies have been top tier, where as Sony and Fox hit the bed every time. Sony is reponsible for 'emo Pater Parker' Fox is responsible for the shit-tastic X-Men movies that they're trying to fix with a Days of future Past time travel story arc to fix it

it's been in development for a few years, but they just haven't time to do it with Avengers, and sequels and what not.

I hope it comes to be soon though, Runaways is good shit.
