What don't you understand about there being nothing to "believe" in this situation. OP has a specific meaning that many people weren't getting from his description because they took one specific line out of context from the rest of the explanation, just like you did.

The people in the comments aren't even attacking atheists, they are remarking upon how he worded it as if the guy being an atheist made it something special. Which it doesn't. Hell, most of the atheist I know would don't like the way some atheist act towards christian. They don't like them making their beliefs look bad by some guy going on and on about how he is a scientist and so smart because he is an atheist and 60% of scientist are atheist.
Third, calling someone an idiot or retarded is not an opinion, it can be classified as either a true, false, or undetermined statement. say I like this, or I don't like that is an opinion. I say "It is my opinion that fire is not hot," but guess what, I would be wrong.

It's actually 95% of the NAS that's atheist, but I digress. I rarely ever see any atheist say that he's smarter because he's atheist, that makes no sense. I do however see some atheists saying atheism is the more intelligent decision, and to be honest I can see where they come to that conclusion. Not really commenting too much on that, just I can see where they are coming from.

Well actually someone calling another person an idiot is subjective towards that specific persons definition of an idiot. Like for me an idiot is someone who keeps ignoring the facts being presented directly in front of them, something you have done many times on this post.

A loud minority will always do more than a silent majority. Because Westboro is out there making asses of themselves "FOR JESUS", it makes the rest of us Christians look terrible. It doesn't help that all you ever see online is pictures of Westboro. Think about how many times you've seen a picture of the Westboro Baptist fuckwads protesting a funeral, and it's captioned "Christian Logic" or something to that effect? How often do you see pictures of Christians actually being Christian circling the web? You don't, because it doesn't serve the internet's ego or id. If the content were truly distributed according to real world acts, then we'd see a few Westboro Baptists posts here and there, and we'd be flooded with pictures of good people doing good things and spreading the gospel in a reasonable and caring way, all-the-while being respectful of other people and their beliefs.
