So, what do you guys think, is homosexuality a choice, or is it a natural occurrence?
User avatar #434 to #304 - heartlessrobot (12/13/2012) [-]
I think it's a natural occurrence, but in some cases might be a choice.
User avatar #425 to #304 - fukkentyranitar (12/13/2012) [-]
I couldn't give a fuck if I tried to. It's none of my business.

I think genetics, I mean bats or penguins dont think of stuff like that, yet there is homosexuality among them ( and all other animals, duh)
User avatar #394 to #384 - Kekuchi (12/13/2012) [-]
You know what would be interesting? If research could have tagged those same animals that experienced homosexual relations and followed them around to see if they were strictly interested in the same sex, that would be something wouldn't it?
#396 to #394 - hammeria (12/13/2012) [-]
yeah, but look - penguins find only one mate for their whole lifetime. they tend to choose males. So do elephants, there are many animals with only one mate.
User avatar #400 to #396 - Kekuchi (12/13/2012) [-]
That's pretty interesting. I should research to see if they maintained a life-long homosexual relationship. That would be enlightening.
#402 to #400 - hammeria (12/13/2012) [-]
There was a case few years ago of the NY (or something) zoo that the new male penguins that were brought to mate with the females got with each other. funny

That's unlucky for the zoo's penguin investment :P Any idea what year it was from, would be great to read up on that.

If it was a choice every fucking bloke would be gay. Proposition do you:
A) Spend loads of money courting a girl into liking you, get married and have kids. The arguments, the family, the menstrual cycle.
B) Hang with your bestfriend all day and get blowjobs.

Reasonable and mutual view on the matter.
#331 to #304 - deezknuts (12/13/2012) [-]
its not genetic, obviously a gay gene wouldn't get passed down

it's just who you are, everyone has a low probability of being gay when they are born if you consider how their instinctual urges are embedded when they develop in the womb. low probability means a small percent of people will, in fact, be born gay.

so it's really just an unlikely, yet completely natural occurence
User avatar #374 to #331 - whyisthissohard **User deleted account** (12/13/2012) [-]
the gay gene can get passed down, both my parents could have brown eyes
I could have blue eyes......two parents can be straight their kid can be gay
User avatar #407 to #374 - deezknuts (12/13/2012) [-]
no, what i'm saying is that through a long period of evolution homosexuality cannot be genetic

you would have blue eyes since somebody in your genetic history had blue eyes.

nobody in anyone's direct genetic history was ever fully homosexual, or their genes wouldn't pass down to the recipient

that particular factor would not pass down since homosexuals do not reproduce (if they did, they would not be homosexual) therefor the "gay gene" would be eliminated evolutionarily.

those who do not reproduce do not provide genetic influence for further generations

im saying its just a random selection of your biological makeup, and you have a much higher chance of being stright. that doesnt make homosexuality wrong, it just makes it less likely.

it's natural and random

1. make any sense
2. prove that homosexualty can be passed down geneticallly
3. hold any relevance to the evolutionary concepts that i had previously mentioned

User avatar #749 to #748 - mrgreatnames **User deleted account** (12/14/2012) [-]
Are you not saying that because gays do not reproduce, there cannot be a gay gene?
User avatar #750 to #749 - deezknuts (12/14/2012) [-]
no i'm saying that since homosexuals do not reproduce, a gay gene could not survivce in evolution

think about it:
lets just say hypothetically that blue eyed people are no longer able to reproduce (just like homosexuals cannot reproduce)
if everyone who had blue eyes suddenly stopped reproducing, after a while, we would see a decline in the number of people with blue eyes

sure some of the people who held the recessive blue eye gene would get blue eyes, BUT according to the condition that they cannot reproduce, we would eventually (over a period of centuries) see a decline in the number of blue eyued people until none of them exist.
User avatar #751 to #750 - mrgreatnames **User deleted account** (12/14/2012) [-]
For god's sake, read my fucking comment

Imagine the following gene:
1. Causes gayness in males
2. Causes females to have increased fertility

User avatar #753 to #751 - deezknuts (12/14/2012) [-]
Oh now i see what you are getting at, (wish you would have clarified, would have saved a lot of time)

if you're trying to get at a hormonal inbalance, where the boy inherits gay and feminine attitude and personality, that would be a hormonal inbalance rather than a genetic impulse

genes dont just go do whatever they fuck well please.

if you consider that gene, it sounds like it would really kick ass evolutionarily
AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM
if that gene were to exist, it would fucking dominate the evolutionary tree, all the bitches would be fertile since all the fertile ones would survive and all the non fertile ones would die out.

then that gene would be everywhere, EVERYWHERE

and then there would be homosexuals EVERYWHERE

but there AREN'T

so the gene doesn't EXIST
#754 to #753 - mrgreatnames **User deleted account** (12/14/2012) [-]
"One gene can have multiple effects "
I thought this was pretty obvious

Okay, how about this:

Gene:
Makes some males gay
Makes some females more fertile

I can just adjust it, because it's purely hypothetical

The way I see it(or at least as it has been my experience), attraction to the same sex is the same exact thing as attraction to the opposite. There really is no difference. You have no real control over how it works, you just happen to find some people attractive and some people not.

You ever have a crush on someone(or maybe that's too strong a word, maybe you just thought they were kinda hot or something) but your friends thought you were crazy for thinking as such, telling you that they thought that person was ugly? Or maybe vice versa? It's the same deal. You have no real control over it, it just happens.

The way I like to describe pansexuality is: bisexuality is when you like males and females, with pansexuality you like males, females, and everything in between. Basically I'm Capt. Jack Harkness is what I'm saying. XP

What irks me the most is that, as a christian, people automatically assume I hate gays. Not true. We are supposed to not like the act of homosexuality. and that's all. But may I point out "love your fellow man?" "Treat those as you would like to be treated yourself?"

My cousin, sister in law, and some of my dearest friends are homosexual, and I have not only supported them in there time of need, but have even fought for there rights. I helped so my cousin could still be with his boyfriend. Because they are human too. and I love them direly. I may not support homosexuality itself, but I support human rights.
I wouldn't want to be judged or treated differently by my beliefs or actions, so I don't do it to others. It's the right thing to do.

thats neat and all, but you should also attempt to understand what's really important in the bible (which i think you do. you nailed the whole "love others and dont be a dick" thing that jesus was saying). the passages about homosexuality originate from leviticus, a book of high jewish law.

really, as christians, we shouldn't give a fuck about homosexuality, since we don't follow high jewish laws., or at least it shouldnt be a big deal

and i'm not calling you out or anything, i totally agree with your actions and i think you are awesome for being supportive of others.

im just saying that it really is unneccessary for anyone to even consider homosex to be abnormal or unnatural.
